Chapter 1

Marylou was born to Amelia and Jackson Austen on March 21, 1990. Marylou was always an amazing student with straight A’s, on honor roll and enjoyed extracurricular school activities such as softball, honor society and would even star in the occasional school play. She was a short girl around 5 foot 3 inches, 130 pounds with long beautiful brown hair and crystal blue eyes. Although she was insecure about her button nose and rounded face, she was undeniably very attractive.

Marylou’s’ mother passed away from a long battle of cervical cancer and in the five years following her death Marylou’s world fell apart and was put back together again. Her father distanced himself from her after a few months because she reminded him of Amelia, and it was too much for him to withstand. Eventually she started college majoring in psychology with a minor in forensics, her dream was to work as a forensic psychologist. She was always interested in the mind and the legal field, so this was the best of both worlds for Marylou. Plus, her mom was a lawyer and she wanted to do anything that would’ve made her proud.

Marylou rushed into the corner café to get out of the blistering cold, it’s the middle of January and snowing but she had already agreed to meet her Aunt Louise for their occasional breakfast and catch-up date. Marylou and Louise had made it their mission to make time every few weeks to meet at the café and have a meal together. Marylou took off her heavy jacket and scarf as she looked around the café, in a side booth in front of a window with a view there she saw a pale woman with freckles shoulder length curly red hair and glasses sipping on a cup of coffee. Louise.

Marylou rushed over to the table and greeted Louise with a hug and a peck on each cheek, as she expressed how much she had missed her. “This view is beautiful, Aunt Louise!” exclaimed Marylou. Louise replied, “I love the way the snow and the icy lake just blend so beautifully with the mountains in the distance! How are you feeling about your graduation ceremony coming up, I’m so excited!” Marylou shrugged and looked into the distance with a somber look. “What’s wrong Marylou?” asked Louise with a worried expression. Marylou responded, “It’s nothing really, I just wish mom could be here to celebrate with us as this chapter closes and a new one opens. I can’t believe it’s been five whole years.” “I just know she’d be so proud of you if she were here, Marylou, just as I am. You’ve grown into such a beautiful woman, who I know will be very successful in her career just as your mother was.” Said Aunt Louise.

Marylou and Louise talked about her plans for after college, when she would buy a house and start a family. They enjoyed their pancakes and scrambled eggs, with sausage and orange juice. Marylou and Louise stacked up their dishes and each left a tip for their waitress, “As much as I’ve enjoyed our time together this morning, I’m afraid I have a meeting to get to.” Stated Louise, Marylou replied, “Me to, I have one last final to take this morning, and then I’m in the clear for graduation.” Before Marylou could finish her sentence, she managed to get out an “oh my god” as she caught a glimpse of the most beautiful creature walking through the door. There was a tall, beautiful woman coming through the café doors, she had short curly black hair with a single blonde strip in the front. She was wearing heels and a suit with a deep V-neck shape to the jacket, which she could tell from where she was gawking that she had nothing underneath it but the necklace that ran down her chest and around her waist and all she could think about trailing was it with her delicate fingers.

The woman must’ve felt her staring because she turned her head and for a moment, they locked eyes, and Marylou blushed and quickly broke eye contact. Louise quickly turned around to see what all the fuss was about, and just as quickly turned back around. “Marylou you should go talk to her.” “Oh my god, Aunt Louise! I can’t just go talk to her; I’d never get any words out! Besides I doubt she’d give me the time of day she’s beautiful. She… she’s perfect.” “Marylou!!” Louise quietly exclaimed; “Don’t sell yourself short, child, any woman would be lucky to have you in her life.” Marylou gulped down the rest of her orange juice, gave her aunt a kiss on the cheek and got up from the table. “Good luck, my dear.” She heard Louise say as she walked away from the table.

Marylou could feel her heart pounding, beating faster and faster as she neared the woman. No idea what she was going to say, or what the woman would say in return. As she approached her, she turned around and looked at Marylou with the most beautiful smile she’d ever seen that lit up her entire face and made her emerald eyes sparkle. “I was wondering if you were going to approach me or just gawk all morning.” Said the stranger. Marylou could feel the heat rise to her cheeks, “Oh, I... I’m sorry. You’re just very beautiful, I didn’t mean to stare.” The woman giggled and held out her hand, “My name is Emily.” Marylou shook her hand and told her, her name. “My. Marylou. That is a beautiful name. A beautiful name for a beautiful girl.” Marylou blushed “Why, thank you.” Marylou looked at the time and panic set in; she was about to be late for her final. Emily noticed the panic,

“Marylou, are you alright?”

“Yes, I’m fine, I hate to rush out, but I have a final I’m about to be late for!” “No worries, love. Take my number and shoot me a message when you’re free. I’ll be waiting.”

Marylou grabbed the napkin with Emily’s’ number and took off out of the café doors.
