Chapter 1

I remember my Dad’s stories, one of the only things I can remember about my real parents. But don't get me wrong my parents are the king and queen of Rosas making me the princess and heir to the throne. They were the best people alive, my father had magic and could grant wishes for the people, he was an amazing person and my mother would have celebrations and throw massive parties to support the poor, amazing people, and amazing parents, which made me amazing too.

My Dad’s stories consisted of magic and wishing on stars but my father always told me not to mess with that nonsense and scared that through right out of my head. Wishing on stars was foolish and anyone who did was too, today one of the townspeople is turning 18 which means my father will collect their wish and grant it. I love going out in the town, my friend Bazzema is a princess from another town, and many people treat her as if she is a million bucks, I mean that is what she's worth. My other friends Dahlia and Simon already turned 18 and they work around Simon is a part-time farmer to help his mom and dad and Dahlia works as my chef and assistant.

Getting into my best gown I have servants come in and finish off with some powder makeup and pull my braids back into one long braid going to about my waist. I can't be late today, but I mean when am I? “Dahlia! Where are my earrings?” I called through the passages, and she came in in a hurry, “Yes, Princess Asha?” she questioned holding my earrings, “Thanks,” I said quietly as I put them in, “Now, do I look perfect.” I questioned striking a quick pose, “Just perfect!” she squeaked, “I know” I said walking away to the stairs to get outside and gather townspeople with my mother, “Ah, Asha wait, would you like to assist me in the wish ceremony today?” I turned around to face my father, I'd waited years to hear that from him. “Really! Yes please, I can't wait I wonder who it will be oooh maybe a new chef or an actress wish, so many of those, right father?” I questioned jokingly. “Uh, yes Asha” he responded.

Opening the door to the outside world and stepping into the bright city of Rosas, music filled the air like oxygen seeping into your body and the smell of trees and fresh food circled you starting a perfect wish ceremony. The people gathered in excitement and whispers ran across the crowd, finally the newly 18-year-old stepped onto the stage quietly awaiting their wish to be granted, they kept their heads low and fidgeted with their hands before my father walked over to him, reaching out his hand. “It's ok, I can't make your wish come true, what would you like?” he whispered, my father had a way with people, they would listen and would instantly feel safe, just like I did. “I want to be brave.” the boy whispered back, my father stepped back before waving his hands around in a harmony-like way twisting around his body and creating a sparkle-like smoke that started taking in the air making it windy and swirling around everyone the crowd, and there it was, his wish, to be held forever and to soon come true.

The crowd was in awe, my father took a step back reaching for my hand, and I held it coming closer to the man. Holding his wish in my hand was the closest to magic I've ever been to, I had asked my father for years to help him at the ceremony but I guess was just so good he was afraid that I was most likely better than him. Finishing off the wish by sending it off the west wing where it will be kept safe cheers erupted through the air. Another successful wish ceremony.

There was going to be a party hosted by my mother but my father pulled me away into the castle, “How did you know how to do that?” he questioned, “I've seen you do it,” I replied, he exhaled and smiled, “Asha, remember what I taught you about magic?” I nodded, “Yes, Father,” I said quietly, “To never wish on stars and stay away from dark magic.” I recited, “Good, good.” he sighed and walked away fixing his hair.

“There has to be more to it” I whispered to myself, turning and going up the stairs to the west wing, Dahlia standing there in front of the door dusting of vases. I got behind the wall so she wouldn't see me, “DAHLIA!” I yelled, she jumped and started running toward the direction I was calling going straight past me. I walked over to the door leading to Father's magic room. I exhaled before opening the knob to the door, inside was stairs leading even farther up the castle, and I hurried up in case of him returning.

Uo the stairs was another large room filled with potions and poisons, spellbooks and history books, what did he do up here? I thought to myself, just then I noticed a small blue light from the ceiling, the wishes.
