"I see right through your bullshit, Heidi! You're fucking transparent," Olivia scowled. And the not-so-much unexpected reaction came from her. She threw the remainder of her hot coffee at Heidi and stormed out of the bookstore. She didn't care if they reported her. She had no desire of returning. Her hot temper got her into trouble often. However, there was a time when Heidi had the ability to cool her off. In another reality, maybe Heidi would apologize. But their friendship was long gone. Beyond repairable.
"Excuse me, Ma'am!" An unfamiliar voice called out from behind Olivia. Firm, yet she sensed urgency. She turned around still in the heat of the moment.
"Listen," Olivia started, "I am not the bitch you wanna mess with right now."
"I understand you are upset. I see that. There is something you should know about Heidi," the bookstore employee had appeared to have a clear and genuine concern. Olivia didn't interrupt as much as she wanted to. The employee proceeded, "Heidi has amnesia. She was in a car accident several months ago. It affects her memory. She had a severe blow to her head that caused a brain injury. So whatever the two of you had going on in the past, she won't remember. She doesn't remember anything from the past 5 years"
Olivia paused and took a moment to register the message she was receiving. If this was true, that means Heidi doesn't remember hooking up with Olivia's boyfriend. If this was true, Heidi wouldn't remember meeting Olivia in high school, or even becoming friends. But Olivia was bitter. If anything, she was more so now than she was a minute ago. Heidi is living freely without guilt of her past actions. And Olivia wanted Heidi to feel sorry. But now? She lives like nothing ever happened. Like nothing so shameful was committed by Heidi. Olivia was furious now. She is never going getting that apology Heidi owed her. This news did not help the situation or make it any less worse. Before, Olivia would go back to make a worse scene, but she knew she needed to handle it a better way. She left the presence of the employee without another word and headed straight to her car. She was going to let off steam. And no better way of coping than to work out at her local gym.
