Chapter 1

Once there lived a magnificent horse. The horse was white, tall, with long black hair. The horse was a girl, and she was beautiful. This lovely horse enjoyed any kind of activity, and she was never defiant for any reason. She always did what she was told without questioning or complaining. This horse’s name was Ivy.

One day while Ivy was relaxing on her farm, a boy of a young age came along. The boy approached the fence where Ivy stood and asked her if he could stay with her for the night. Realizing the boy had no place to stay, she allowed him to climb the fence and stay on the farm. The boy climbed the tall old fence and was now on the other side with the horse.

As the day flew by, it began to get dark. Then, it started to get cold. The boy was now freezing and had nothing to keep him warm. So, Ivy searched for a blanket, and when she found one, she handed it to the cold boy. All through the night, if the boy needed something, Ivy would provide it for him. However, the boy continuously complained that it wasn’t enough. Yet, Ivy, with a loving heart, kept providing for him.

When morning came, Ivy woke up. The boy was already awake and looking for food. Ivy found a few apples in a corner and offered them to the boy. Snobbishly, he declined and told her that apples were not good enough for him. Feeling bad, the kind horse tried to find a better choice. She was unsuccessful, but still kept looking. The boy was beginning to get mad. With much hate, the boy did something for himself for the first time. He snatched a horseshoe off the wall and threw it at the horse many times. When the horse was hit enough times, she soon died. Then, the boy decided to eat her. When he was satisfied, he ran far away from the farm.

The boy grew up quickly, and soon had a life of his own. Ivy on the other hand, was in Heaven. She spoke with God about the boy everyday in hope that his life might be better. Unfortunately, the boy still had a terrible life. Then, one day God came to Ivy with a question. He asked her if she would enjoy spending one more day on Earth. Ivy became tremendously excited and asked if she could visit the boy. God, knowing what would happen if she did, allowed her to go. Immediately, Ivy was brought to earth.

When she arrived she saw the boy. She ran to him quickly and stopped. The boy said nothing. Then, he walked straight through Ivy as if she were thin air. The boy couldn’t see, hear or feel her. Ivy was beginning to doubt her decision of going back to Earth when God told her to make a request. Ivy didn’t hesitate to answer. She asked that the boy would be given anything he absolutely needed. Soon after, the request was put into place.

When the day was over Ivy was brought back to Heaven. While she was there she could see much of the things the boy did. A few times he was in need. All Ivy had to do was ask God to help him, and he did. Sadly, the boy did not know it was because of Ivy’s request, nor would he have cared, and he continued to be ungrateful and complain to others that nothing was ever enough. And still Ivy went out of her way to ask God to help him and he was always there for him no matter what.

This is a story about a horse. A horse unlike any other. She always cared for the ones she loved. Her name was Ivy.
