Chapter 1

Loch Morlick 1702 AD

Full eclipse of the moon and witchcraft is afoot.

The pirates safe cave, located...

(Mwahaha... not telling you just yet, but it was darker than the inside of a cow, there were spiders on the walls, mould, leeches in the puddles on the floor, rats everywhere and one Scottish Pirate Captain who was tied up to his crew and about to be cursed out of existence by a horrid bad tempered witch with 3 teeth, a lisp and bad knees. It would seem our Captain was a bit reckless with his affections to the witches sister, mother and some of the cousins even she had never met, so as a result he was to join the spirit world post haste at the request of the husbands, brothers and a local priest, who knew about the witch but turned a blind eye to her crazy beliefs and weird odours that emanated from the cave she did all her best work in.......now read on.....Mwahaha....evil laugh supposed to induce fear into YOU the reader...did it work?: GMB61)

Captain Fellum McDonald was pulling on the ropes around his wrists with a certain amount of urgency now that his life and the lives of his trusted crew mates was about to end in a way that wasn’t quite clear to him just yet, but he knew it would be bad.

Yes, he got caught tripping the light McFandangoo with half the females of the local town and now he was going to pay for it with his life and the lives of his crew. The moon outside the cave was almost completely covered in shadow that would release a special kind of magic into the air for the witch to do her worst to the cowering men.

They all knew it was curtains and a real sense of dread was hanging in the air. It was just as the shadow over the moon took away any sign of the planet that the witch commenced clearing her throat and the incantation began in earnest. The men started to tremble. Their breath was short and in quick gasps as if gulping down the last lot of oxygen they would ever use before something really bad happened.

The spiders and rats all looked at the witch at once and then so did the crew.

It was close.

Death was closer to these men that it had ever been in all their escapades at sea. All the close calls from being chased into hiding by heavily armed gunships from different countries that made their living from secured routes across the channels Captain Fellum sort to plunder on a regular basis, all seemed to fade into a blur now that the last of the incantation was being muttered over a cauldron in the back of the cave.

“Madam Wutch, I doo not suppooz I cood tempt you with a wee walk under the stars ootside?” asked Fellum as he watched the witch reach for a piece of tan leather animal skin in a bag near her feet. She looked around at Fellum and his crew tied up in the corner of the cave, all the time muttering her curse and squinting at them with vengeance in her eyes.

“Guess not” said Fellum under his breath and he look down dejectedly at his long pirate boots for almost the last time. The witch gently lowered the leather skin into a cauldron in front of her that had simmering goo in it and Fellum knew it was time.

“Well laddies, it’s been a pleasure ta be yoor Captain but I feel our time is up, old splinter knickuss is aboot to finish us off.....soo be brave and stand with me once more as we leave this dank ruddy cave for seas unknoowen” and he lifted up his gnarled salty weather beaten face and gave back to the witch the same steely gaze she had just given him...

“doo ya wurst eaglebeak, but just before ya doo.........give us a kiss...!!!”

The witch reeled around quicker than a blink and held the leather skin dripping with goo in front of her and started to sing. The sound that came from her throat was high pitched and jumbled but there was a structure to it.....it just wasn’t very good or pleasing to the ear and it was getting louder.

So loud in fact if it had not been for the ropes holding the wrists of Fellum and his crew they would have put their fingers in the ears to block it out....if they could. Louder and louder came the singing. Fellum started to squint at the pain in his ears and lines started to form on the leather skin in the witches’ hands.

5 neat even lines with an inch between each neat set were forming in front of Fellums’ eyes and he felt the power from the witch creep into his veins and every inch of his being. Some of the crew began to moan and cry out with immense pain with the ever increasing volume of the chant.

They all felt it infest their bodies. The end was close. More lines appeared on the leather skin and the witch began to tremble from the pressure with which she was chanting. Fellum clenched his eyes tightly and let go a gut wrenching yell, and the witch stopped chanting instantly.

Fellum looked up and into the eyes of the witch and his body began to change shape and disintegrate. The crew begin to scream watching their leader; Captain and friend disappear before their eyes.

The horror of their end was now upon them. The ropes around Fellums wrists fell to the ground as there were no longer any wrists to stay firmly secured to. The crews’ screams gradually began to be silenced as they went the same way as their Captain.

The witch never blinked.

Her gaze at the pirates never moved until that area of the cave was only covered in rope, with no bodies. Her hands holding the leather skin slowly dropped the skin down to her torn muddy clothes.

The job was done.

Vengeance had been served.

The witch turned the leather skin with the lines over so she could see her handy work and a toothless smile broke out on her face. Casting her eyes down onto the skin she saw the lines and there was something else that made an evil chuckle come from the depths of her soul to bounce around inside the cave with an evil hollow echo.

There on the lines were small dots. Each dot was a member of the crew and the Captain. The skin had absorbed their mortal flesh and converted them to musical notes upon a musical stave. The moon began to come into view and the eclipse was done.

The magic was complete.

The witch folded the manuscript up and placed it in a solid ebony chest that she procured from the Lavrock, Fellums ship anchored just outside the cave in the shallows of Loch Morlick.

Her job was done.

It was time to leave this world and its disgusting men behind her. She placed the chest in the middle of all the rope that came off the crew and then with a whip of her hand the chest was wrapped in the rope like a million snakes in frenzy. She turned and staggered out of the cave into the bright moonlight and stretched her arms to the heavens as if asking for acceptance for what she had just done and then whipped her hands directly at the Lavrock. Its anchor came up with clanks and groans and gently the ship left its moorings for a deeper sea.

The witch looked at the final resting place for the Lavrock and clapped her hands together and instantly the Lavrock burst into flames. Before the sound of the clap had died out, the witch was gone, into the night air never to return. The Lavrock burned brightly for a time and then sank into the water with a hiss of capitulation, right above a very deep hole beneath the surface on the water. It took two days for what was left of the Lavrock to sink to the bottom of that hole and then as the silt settled and sea creatures at that depth became used to the intrusion from this wreck, life went on as normal, in the dark, time became the wrecks friend on the bottom of that deep hole....

( Pretty crazy start eh...it even surprised me : GMB61)
