My mother

1

Cassandra: My heart was heavy as I looked for the car my spell had indicated. (I’m a witch) I was desperate and it was difficult to walk around with a backpack and a guitar.

I found the car I was looking for!

My heart stopped!

I dropped my backpack and guitar and approached the vehicle. When I got there my

heart sank because the person I was looking for wasn’t there.

I picked up my backpack and my guitar and walked back to the park I’d passed on my

way to the car. I sat down on one of the benches, put down my stuff and started crying. There’s a good reason why I was crying.

I took out a tissue and blew my nose. Ten minutes later, I decided to pull myself

together.

I’d been so focused on finding certain people that I didn’t remember to book a hotel

room.

I slapped my forehead.

As I walked through the city looking for a hotel I asked myself, What’s wrong with

me?

I should have thought ahead and I felt even more desperate.

After half an hour I came across a castle. I stared at it because I loved castles. It was six stories high. It was built out of wood and seemed to be three hundred years old. Considering how old it was, I didn’t think anyone was living there.

Maybe I could stay there.

I shook my head.

Maybe I should keep looking for a hotel.

But I’ve been looking for a long time and I haven’t found one yet. And for some

reason, I haven’t even found a cab that could take me to a hotel. What if I don’t find a hotel room?

I could look and come back to the castle, if I don’t find anything. What if I can’t find my way back to the castle?

Against my better judgement, I walked through the front gates and into the castle. The door didn’t lock. I looked around and found many bedrooms. I chose the most appealing one and put my stuff in it, so I could look around the castle and see if there was anyone here. I’d been carrying my stuff for so long I sighed in relief when I put it down.

Phew!

My shoulders were stiff. It was freeing not to have to carry my stuff with me. I looked on all the floors, but couldn’t find anyone.

I sighed in relief again.

I wanted to be alone. Besides, it would have been much easier to stay here than to look for a hotel.

I took a shower and put on my pajamas. I looked through the castle again and it cheered me up when I found statues of the Greek gods everywhere because Greek mythology is one of my passions. The statues were made with different materials.

My heart jumped.

I’ll look at the statues tomorrow because I didn’t feel like it tonight. I was too desperate and depressed.

I couldn’t find a washing machine at the castle, so I’ll just buy new clothes when I ran out of clean ones. I couldn’t bring a lot of clothes because they wouldn’t have fit into my backpack. I’d brought my guitar because playing music brings me peace. Music was another one of my passions. My Mom wasn’t very good at playing any instrument. But she was a great painter. I started playing and the tension seemed to seep out of me. I was happy to see how good I was. My despair didn’t go away completely, but it was far more tolerable now.
