Chapter 1 Seraphina
Once upon a time there was a girl. A girl who raised dragons and to protect them she went to war. I'm not that girl.
But I am her daughter.
My name is Seraphina Sengrid. And the story I'm about to tell you.... defies all the odds. This is my story.
The imperial year was 497. And I was out doing what I always did. Which was as my mother put it. The exact opposite of what I was supposed to do.
"Faster storm" I told her as we flew high in the sky. I loved being up here. It was so freeing. Storm flew lower as we approached a mountain at the border of Sengrid and Geria. "Let's land" I said, patting her neck, and she quickly landed. At the bottom of the mountain.
I hopped off her back and walked to what looked like a giant sinkhole. "This wasn't here before" I said to myself as I knelt down a few feet away from it. I grabbed a decent sized rock and threw it to the edge of the sinkhole, before I stood up and walked to the edge myself. The ground was soft but stable.
I looked down into the hole. It was deep. I then grabbed a stick. "Fire" I said as the top of the stick lit on fire "protect the flame from the wind that falls so I may see how deep the hole goes" I said, chanting a weird spell. Magic was weird, and the spells even weirder. All you had to do was describe what you wanted and it would happen.
I dropped the stick into the sinkhole. I watched as it quickly fell deeper and deeper until the flame was completely gone. I turned to storm.
"I think we're gonna need some supplies" I told her as she tilted her head at me.
It didn't take us long to fly back to the castle. And as we descended from the sky, I could see my mother waiting for me. "Seraphina Sengrid, where on earth have you been?" my mother said, obviously annoyed. "Where i always am mother, in the sky" I told her sarcastically as I jumped off storm. "You have duties to fulfill here" she told me. "That isn't until later today and it's not like we were gone long" I replied. She let out a sigh.
This was my mother Marianna Sengrid, Queen and leading monarch to the United empire. "Anyway there is something I must tell you" I said as I walked up to her. "Storm and I found a large and very deep sinkhole on the border mountain" I told her. "I have this strange feeling that there's something in it," I added. "A sink hole" my mother questioned. "Sera, that could be dangerous" she told me. "We fly on dragon's backs and that's not dangerous" I said with clear sarcasm.
"She has a point mari" my father said as he approached us. My father Theodore Angeria, king consort and not the leading monarch of Sengrid. He was given that title because...
"The difference between a sinkhole and flying is you know what to expect your majesty" my step father said as he approached us as well. Anyway my father was given that title because of my mom's second husband and consort duke Cedric Winchester.
"It doesn't matter, I'm going to explore it anyway" I told them, as I began to walk towards the castle. "Sera you can't go alone" my mother said and she turned to me. "Then I'll bring the twins'' I told her as I made my way into the castle. It wasn't often I got to explore things like this and I wasn't missing my chance. I thought to myself.
"Sera? What are you doing" my brother asked as he approached me. "I'm going to grab my bag so I can explore a sinkhole" I told him. "Grab yours to and let Ange know she's coming to" I told him as I walked past him.
That was my brother Edward Winchester. He is the older one of the twins. My little sister is Angelina Winchester. They are both the heirs to the Winchester duchy.
It didn't take me long to grab my bag and get back outside. The twins were already waiting for me along with storm, blizzard, drazyn and my mother.
"You 3 better be safe, it's a sinkhole which means it's unstable, we don't even know what might be down there so be alert" my mother told us. "We'll be fine, mother," I told her. "We won't be gone long either" I added. She let out a deep breath. "If you're not back by sundown I'll come find you myself" she told us. "You worry too much" I said as I hopped on storms back.
"Let's go, the longer we delay the longer it will take" I said, as Angelina got on blizzard and Edward got on Drazyn. "Let's go!" I shouted as Storm took off into the air. She was the fastest of the 3 dragons so fast that no one would be able to catch up if she went full speed.
It didn't take long to get to the border where the sinkhole was. As soon as I landed I pulled rope out of my bag and tied it to a tree. A few minutes later Ange and Eddy landed. They weren't as used to flying as I was. They didn't really like it. They also didn't really like exploring. But they did love the sword. It was something we all learned growing up, so I figured they'd enjoy some part of this if we ended up having to fight something.
"How long is this gonna take?" Ange asked as she hopped off of blizzard. "As long as it takes," I told her. "We need to make sure the hole doesn't have any monsters come out of it, especially with how deep it is" I told her seriously. "So you decided to come here alone with just the 3 of us?" She questioned annoyed.
I looked at her. "First of all ange we are all trained in the sword, second we all use magic, and third we have 3 dragons. If we can't protect ourselves then the United empire is in trouble" I told her as I threw the other side of the rope into the hole. "Now you can stay here or get in the hole, pick one little sis" I told her as I began to climb down the rope.
