Chapter 1
Chris. Chris is his name. The love of my life. I met him 13 years ago. “We’re going to die old!” He said to me. Then a year later, he proposed! “We’re gonna get married!!” He said to me. “You know what’s crazy?” I said. “What my love?” He said curious. “I’m so lucky I met you” I said to him. He just smiled. “Let’s talk about our future” he said. “I want a house in the Marsh.” I said to him. “It can also have a lake, my love.” He said to me. “I can’t wait to start a life with you!” I said excitedly. The day the wedding happened was March 18th 1999. It had just got done raining as I walked down the aisle. My long beautiful white dress followed behind. My bridesmaid, Allie was cheering me on. “Do you Evelyn, take Chris to be your husband for the rest of your life?” The pastor said. “I do.” I said looking into Chris’s eyes. “Chris do you take Evelyn to be your wife for the rest of your life?” “I do” Chris said. “You may now kiss the bride” the pastor said. Then we did. He kissed me. We had a party and everything was going great! Until, I got nauseous as we got home. “Maybe it’s the marsh, honey.” Chris said. “It can’t be, I’ve lived in the marsh before when I was little” I said to him. He then goes to the store and gets a pregnancy test. I take the test and it comes out positive. “Chris..” I said. “Yes dear?” He says. “I’m pregnant” I say nervously. “This is great news!” He said excitedly. “Really?” I said confused. “Aren’t you happy?” He says. “I am but what if I’m not a good mom?” I said. “You’ll be a great mom, my love” he says trying to reconsider me. Nine months later I had a baby girl. We named her Sarah. “Sarah Smith” Chris said. 41 years go by after that. Sarah is 41 and moved to the city. Chris is 79. I am 75. On the day Chris started to pass, I told him one last thing. “You know what’s crazy?” I say. “What is it, love?” He said. “I was lucky enough to meet you” I say. “I’m glad I met you too, my love.” He says as he takes his last breath. The day I lost the love of my life was April 18th 2023.
