Chapter 1
My mind is spinning and my heart is racing faster than it has before. How could I do such a dumb thing?! I park the car in the driveway and run inside. I ignore my dad as he asks about the party. I close the door to my room and sit on the bed. I look at my phone and see seven missed calls and fourteen missed messages from Levi. I turn my phone off and try to sleep but the events that happened earlier flash in my head.
(A week before the events above)
I’m working on my art project as Levi walks into the art studio. “Hey, how’s it going dude?” I look up to see Levi leaning against the door frame. “Oh nothing much, I’m just fishing up my project.” He looks over at the drawing in front of me. “This is amazing!” I give Levi a nod before looking back at my art. “Really all I get is a nod?” He says with a chuckle. “Sorry I just really have to get this done, it’s due in three days” I flash him a small smile. “It’s fine. Do you want me to leave?” He asks not taking his eyes off my painting. “No, don’t leave, I’m almost done for today. I say as I stand up and put my pencil and paints in my bag. “Ok, do you want to go do something? Do you want to go to the roller rink or maybe my house or yours?
“We can go back to your place, didn’t you get a new game recently?” I ask him while rinsing my paint pallet. “Yeah it’s a new racing game, did you want to try it out?” He asks with a smile across his face. “Sure, sounds fun!” I say while putting my paint pallet into my bag and slinging it over my shoulder. “Then let’s go!” He says with excitement in his voice.
We get to his house and I take my shoes off and lay them on the mat by the door. I follow him upstairs to his room. I sit on the edge of his bed and wait for him to start up the game. “I have to go take a shower.” Levi says while grabbing clothes from his drawer. “Oh ok, I’m gonna go grab some food then.” I say standing up and going to the door. “Ok don’t eat anything that has my moms name on it.” he says and I hear the shower turn on.
I walk down stairs and enter the pantry and see a box of cookies. I grab the cookies and head back upstairs. I sit on the bed and start eating the cookies. About ten minutes later Levi comes out of the bathroom. He’s wearing a tighter long sleeve shirt that shows off the muscles on his arms. He’s also wearing basketball shorts that end right above his knee caps.
“Are you ready to play?” He asks, turning on the console “Yeah, let’s start!” I say grabbing one of the controllers from his hand. We play for a bit before he puts the controller down and looks at me.
“So, there’s this party going on next week and I was hoping you would come with me.” He says getting up and grabbing a hoodie. “I don’t know Levi, I don’t really do parties.” I say placing the controller on the bed. “I know but it would be fun!” He says. “I’ll think about it” I say while shoving a cookie in my mouth.
Levi reaches for the cookies and I slap his hand. “Ow these are my cookies.” He says rubbing his hand. “Well they’re mine now” I say popping another one in my mouth. “How big is this party?” I ask placing the cookies on his night stand. “It’s a pretty big party, there will be like three fourths of our grade there.”
“Three fourths!? What do you mean three fourths!?” I say as my eyes widen and I almost choke on the cookie. “Well, I did say it was a big party-” I don’t hear the rest of what he was saying because I got distracted by the way the sunlight was bouncing off of his emerald green eyes. He has small blue speckles dancing in between the bright greens. “So will you go?” He asks, smiling. “Fine.” I say rolling my eyes.
I start noticing small details that stand out more than they had before. Like how there was one lock of hair that fell the other direction then the rest, or how he always shows seven teeth when he smiles. My eyes wander up and down his face as I notice small details I didn’t before. My eyes finally land on his lips, they’re a bit chapped but not too much. His lips are a soft coral color. He has a freckle up to the left of his lips.
“Are you ok?” Levi asks, pulling my gaze away from his mouth. “Yeah I’m fine. Why?” I give him a small smile as I ask. “You just looked very intrigued by something. He said. I see his hand slowly moving closer to me, I look up at him and ignore it. “I was just thinking about what to do to get out of this party.” I say sarcastically, knowing now that I said I would go there was no way to get out of it. “You could try all you want, but you won’t get out of it. I’ll drag you by the hair if I have to.” He says with a laugh that makes it sound like he’s joking but he’s not he will, well has dragged me by the hair to do something.
I hear something crinkle by my hand to see him trying to steal a cookie again. I smack his hand and move the cookies to my lap. (The cookies are in Oreo like packaging) “How dare you try to steal my cookies.” I glared at him making sure to keep glancing at his hands to make sure he wasn’t trying anything. “They were mine first.” He whined, he looked at his slightly reddened hand. “You hit me pretty hard.” He looked at me then back at his hand. “That’s what you get for trying to distract me and steal my cookies.” I say and giggle. “They are my cookies.” He said, snatching the cookies from my lap. “Hey, give them back!” I say trying to grab the cookies from him. “No!” He said getting up off the bed.
I jump at him and he moves out the way and I land on the floor. He looks down at me in shock before laughing his ass off. I grab his ankle without warning and he falls, surprisingly none of the cookies fall out of the box. I climbed over him and grabbed the cookies and ran to the other side of the bed. “Get back here!” Levi yells from the floor. “Come get me!” I say sticking my tongue out at him. He got up and ran around the bed and stood in front of me, I backed up a bit holding the cookies to my chest. “You can’t have them.” I said, giving him a warning glare. “Yes I can, and I will.” He said full of confidence.
Before I could say something else he pushed me and I fell onto the bed, the cookies flying out of my hands on the way down. He caught the cookies and shoved one in his mouth. “How could you!?” I say sarcastically and kick him in the leg. “You shouldn’t have stolen my cookies.” He said and kicked me back. He held his hand out and helped me off the floor. “Now what should I wear to the party?” He asks, walking over to his closet. “That depends on a few things” I say back, grabbing another cookie and walking over to him.
“Like what?” He asks looking over at me. “Well for starters what type of party is it? A costume party, a stop light party, a regular hang out party?” I say looking through his clothes. “I think it’s just a regular party.” He says walking over to his dresser. “Ok now how do you want to look when you walk into the party? Wait, you own crop tops?” I ask, looking over my shoulder at him. “Oh those, yeah I have some, I bought them in case I wanted to show off more skin at a party. Also to answer your first question, I want to look sexy.” He says and hops on the bed. “Ok that’s very vague.” I say looking through the rows of shirts he has. I pull out a sage green lower cut crop top. “Sit up” I say, he sits up and I hold the crop top up to him. I throw it at him and go back to looking through his shirts. “Holy low cut crop tops! I thought you said a little skin, not your entire chest.” I say with a chuckle. “Hey, don’t judge they look good.” He says with a small laugh.
I pull out a lilac medium cut crop top and a dark blue low cut one and throw them at him. I walk over to his dresser and open his jean drawer. I rummage around and find a few pairs of jeans that would match. One is a very ripped jean and two are regular jeans. “These lighter jeans match the lilac crop top, the black jeans match the blue one, and the ripped jeans match the sage green top. Now go change” I say throwing them in his direction.
He gets off the bed and grabs the mess of clothes and walks into the bathroom. He comes out with the dark blue crop top and black jeans. I give him a nod and he heads back in, he comes out with the lilac crop top and the lighter blue jeans. He goes back in and comes out with the sage green crop top and brown ripped jeans. He goes back in and comes back out with his regular clothes on and a pile of clothes in his hands.
“So mister expert which looked the best?” He asked sarcastically while placing the pile of clothes on the bed. “The last one, but it’s missing something other than accessories. I just can’t put my finger on it.” I say tapping my chin. “What do you mean accessories? You’re not planning to put bows in my hair are you?” He asked me a little skeptically. “No idiot like jewelry and shit.” I rolling my eyes
“I have it!” I say excitedly. “That doesn’t seem good.” He says, looking at me. “Do you have fish nets?” I asked him. “No but my dad might, but what does fishing have to do with this?” He asks and I again roll my eyes. “So that’s clearly a no. I mean the leggings stupid.” I told him and started putting the outfits he wasn’t going to wear away. “Ooh! No, why would I?”
“I don’t know, but you had crop tops so it was worth it to ask.” I say closing his closet and taking a seat on the bed. “Well you need neon green fishnets so go buy some.” I say taking a cookie.
