Chapter 1: V Is For Vampire
Hey everyone! Chloe's adventure continues! Thank you so much for reading, and I hope you enjoy the sequel <3
Blood dripped from my chin and I let out a laugh, feeling high and hazy. The boy under has his chest bare, a goofy grin on his face and his pupils dilated. The wound on his neck glistened, red and attractive. I felt him stiffen between my legs and tried not to laugh.
“You’re so beautiful.” He grabbed my hips and tried to pull me in for a kiss. I palmed his chest and pushed him away, pinning him on the red, leather sofa.
“You can look, but you can’t touch.” I giggled. The blood made me unhinged, uninhibited, but there was a part of me it couldn’t get to.
The boy tried to pull me closer again, making me lean in and look straight into his blue eyes, now darker. Energy spread through me as I smiled at him, smelling the fresh blood that seeped from the wound.
“You can look, but you can’t touch.” I commanded him and enjoyed the sight of his body relaxing, surrendering completely to me.
I was just about to return to enjoying my meal when a voice interrupted me.
“Chloe!”
I grunted and rolled my eyes.
“What?” My head snapped in the direction of the voice.
Ian stood over me, his light brown hair pushed back, a couple of loose strands falling over his smirking face. He looked over my bloody, little black dress shamelessly. I took in his black shirt, his rolled-up sleeves and his tense muscles. Gosh, he was fucking gorgeous and I was way too turned on from all the blood-drinking to stare at him for this long.
“We have a lead.”
“What?” I pushed the boy that tried to kiss me again away and got off him, forgetting about him for the time being. “What lead?”
“The murders.” Ian turned away from me and strolled off to the lounge area.
The room was dimly-lit, with muted red lights all around. Leather and dark oak wood decorated each surface. There was a bar with all kinds of booze, just waiting for my tongue to touch the hundreds of dollars worth liquid.
Right now, we were alone. Well, except for the nameless boy that lay forgotten on the sofa and Ian’s blonde toy for the evening.
I threw myself on the red lounge and put my feet up on the glass table in front of me. The Miu Miu sandals I wore shone in the light; its silver colour lost under the red illumination. The blonde slept next to me peacefully.
“Want something to drink?” Ian entered the bar.
“I was just about to.” I arched my eyebrow and smiled wickedly at him. A smile tugged at the corner of his lips, but he shook his head instead and poured himself some Jack Daniels.
This was not how I spent all of my nights.
“I managed to track down one of the two guys that came to defend Brad that night.” Ian said and took a sip of his drink.
“It only took you five months.” I noticed and Ian shot a serious look my way.
“It’s a cult, Chloe.” He said. “Vampire cult. They’re good at hiding.”
“What did you find?” I pointed at the bottle, silently asking him to pour me some. Honestly, I didn’t know what time it was or how long I’ve been in this...bar.
“They’ve been recruiting.” Ian carried both of our glasses and put them on the glass table. He sat down next to me and I felt the closeness of his body too strongly.
Nothing ever happened between us, but not for the lack of attraction. I’ve seen him drink from too many girls, I heard them squirm and sigh and gasp under his touch. I couldn’t help it, I imagined what his fingers felt like.
But there was a part of me that wouldn’t give in.
“Whom?”
“Other vampires. Like Brad.” Ian pulled his phone out and let me look at the picture he took somewhere. But I noticed something else. 7:15AM. Classes were starting soon.
“What for?” I asked.
“I don’t know. But the murders,” Ian breathed in, “They were the initiation rituals.”
Instead of paying attention to what he was saying, I read the sign. Red letters on a black cover.
To enter the Sacred Order, you will need to prove your loyalty to our kind by taking the lives of ten people. The original order shall be restored, glory to Vilmus!
“Ominous.” I murmured. “Where did you find it?”
Ian took the phone from me and his fingers briefly grazed mine. We were friends, I liked to believe so, at least. He taught me how to use mind control and helped me get stronger and faster. Plus, he got his blood in a very, very fun way. I liked hanging out with him. But we kept it a secret, because, well, some people disagreed.
“I found their abandoned lair.” He said. “And I say lair because it was full of dismembered bodies and dry blood.”
“Oh, wow.” My stomach twisted slightly.
“Anyway,” Ian leaned onto the lounge and I mimicked the movement, “I’ve no idea how many vampires they recruited.”
“Why would anyone want to join something like that?” I frowned.
“Vampire life tends to get pretty lonely.” Ian shrugged. “Some people just want to feel like they belong, I guess.”
“You don’t seem so lonely.” Ever so slightly, I nodded towards the blonde still soundly asleep next to me and Ian chuckled.
“I have you to keep me company. We should get going, Charlie will be here soon and we have classes.” Ian got up.
Charlie was the man who owned the bar, he allowed us to come into the little room in the back and, well, have some fun, for a bunch of money Ian gave him every month. Charlie was cool; he never asked any questions, no matter what he saw.
“You’re still trying to get a permanent position on campus.” I noted and downed my drink.
Ian and William decided to stay on campus. William was much easier to persuade, especially once Sheila told him she wanted him to stay, but I had to beg Ian to stay.
A huge part of me was glad, but the other part of me was nervous. We hung out too often and seeing him in compromising positions did not help.
“They’ll take me.” Ian said. “As soon as Old George leaves they will need a new math professor.”
Old George was the oldest teacher on campus and he refused to leave. Ever.
Ian disappeared behind a crimson-coloured wall and I followed. My bag was there, with my schoolwork and my day clothes. I didn’t strut around in tiny black dresses. This was only for special occasions, such as blood-drinking with Ian. I shoved my bag in his hands while I tried to get out of my dress.
He turned around each time. He never peeked. Not once.
“Is that herbarium in your bag?” Ian asked while I pulled my day-dress over my head. It was a cute, square-neck, sleeveless dress with a black and white dotted pattern. Much more polite than the dress I had on moments ago.
“I have Botany today.” I murmured, glancing at myself in the mirror.
All the fresh blood I was consuming helped out a great deal. My blonde hair was thicker, more voluptuous, my eyes were a deep shade of green, inviting, sexy, and my complexion has never been better. Yet, no one enjoyed my sexiness, which caused a pang of resentment within me. How could I look this good and remain celibate?
“When I think about it, you truly are the kind of person who would bring homework to an orgy.”
“Hey, this wasn’t an orgy!” I cut him off.
Ian chuckled as he looked at my herbarium, “One step away.”
“This wasn’t an orgy.” I reached for the notebook and shot him a mean look.
Ian’s fingers grazed mine on purpose and a small, knowing smile gripped his lips. My breath hitched against my will. No, we weren’t having weird vampire orgies. This was a joint blood-drinking session. Totally different. Much more innocent.
“What are we going to do about the vampire cult?” Ian leaned onto the door frame while I proceeded to fix my makeup.
“Ignore them and hope they disappear?” I offered with a smile.
“We don’t do that anymore, Chlo.” Ian arched his eyebrow.
“Fine.” I sighed. “You could join them. You look like you can kill people without blinking twice. Find out how they pick their targets.”
“We could set a trap for them.” Ian hummed. “I’ll see what I can do.”
I grabbed my stuff and we walked out through the regular cafe in front of the lounge area, leaving the blonde girl and the guy I was with there to rest. Charlie would take care of them. Ian mind-controlled him into submission. There were vials of our blood there so they could heal their wounds. None of them would remember what happened.
Morning air hit my nostrils as we walked out. Spring blossomed everywhere around. Flowers grew and birds sang. I took in the smell of spring and exhaled happily. Campus wasn’t so far away and we walked over.
“So, how’s Caiden?” Ian asked after a while.
“Fine, I guess.” I guessed.
“Still giving him space?”
“Still giving him space.” I confirmed, uninterested in talking about this.
“Still haven’t told him where you’ve been spending your nights?” Ian glanced at me sideways and I fought the urge to roll my eyes until my brain burst.
“It’s not ‘nights,’” I corrected him, “It’s not even that often. Plus, I need blood to live.” I rationalized.
“Yes, and Caiden would be thrilled to find out you’ve been drinking from fraternity boys?”
Fraternity boys weren’t the problem, Ian and I both knew it. Caiden would be way angrier if he found out Ian was there every time, he’d be pissed if he knew about the innocent touches and not so innocent glances between Ian and me when we indulged in a meal together.
“Caiden and I aren’t together.” I reminded him, shaking the dirty thoughts off.
No, we weren’t together, but I chose to be faithful nonetheless. It has been turning exponentially harder, this whole vampire thing has been making me very horny.
“You’re lying to him.” Ian murmured.
“You’re getting on my nerves.” I hummed as we approached campus.
I noticed Sheila standing with Caiden in front of the main building. Her hair grew longer and the huge curls covered most of her back. A huge grin emerged on her face when she saw me. She made sure to hang out with Caiden more often, to help him come to terms with my being a vampire. Interestingly, she was totally fine with it. Even after William lifted the mind control he put on her to calm her down that one time.
My eyes landed on Caiden and I inhaled a sharp breath. Things have been tense. Caiden’s hazel eyes turned darker as he assessed Ian. He was not happy when he found out Ian was staying on campus and no matter how hard I tried, none of my explanations reached him. I hoped he would understand I couldn’t make Ian leave after how much he’s helped me, but I conveniently left out the part where I begged Ian to stay. Caiden wouldn’t understand. His lips twisted into a frown and his forehead slightly wrinkled. His head fell, the black hair falling over his face.
“I’ll see you after class.” Ian raised his eyebrow and smiled smugly.
“You’re enjoying this.” I looked at him angrily, but he simply grinned and walked away.
I took in a breath and walked over to my friends. Sheila waved happily and Caiden averted his gaze. It’s been like this for the past five months, ever since I chose to go to St Tropez with Ian. Caiden never forgave me. After a while, he began talking to me again, but the tensions were still high.
Today, though, once Ian left, Caiden offered a gentle smile.
“Sleep well?” He asked.
“Like the dead.” I answered and Sheila looked at me pointedly. She knew about my nightly adventures, she was my roommate, after all.
Caiden walked ahead and Sheila leaned towards me.
“You’ve got blood on your shoes.”
My head snapped to the floor. And ladies and gentlemen, I had blood on my silver shoes.
