Chapter 1
Shanaya's Pov
Mom, I landed safely," I said into the phone, hoping to ease her worry. "Yes, I took the luggage." I could sense her concern even through the crackling connection.
"I'll book a cab, please don't send a car," I pleaded, knowing how overly protective she could be. "Yes, I have my pepper spray," I added, anticipating her next question.
"Mom, just relax a bit," I urged, trying to reassure her. "Let me call you after I reach there." I could hear the strain in her voice as she reluctantly agreed. "Yes, definitely," she said softly. "Bye, love you," she added before hanging up.
As I pocketed my phone, a mix of emotions flooded over me. I missed Chandigarh, but this newfound independence was exhilarating. It was the first time I had ventured out on my own, away from the comfort of home. Despite my mom's worry, I knew this was what I wanted – to spread my wings and explore the world, even if it meant leaving my parents behind.
Being away from Chandigarh for the first time is both liberating and lonely. Sure, I miss home a little, but this independence is what I've craved. Don't judge me, okay? I adore my parents, but being the only daughter of a wealthy businessman has its drawbacks.
Firstly, making genuine friends is nearly impossible; they're just after my family's money. Secondly, I can't even go anywhere without my bodyguard hovering nearby. And most importantly, people only see me as my father's daughter, not as Shanaya.
I don't blame Dad for his hard work, but sometimes I just want to be Shanaya, not the heiress to his empire. I want real friendships and to enjoy life without the weight of my family's name.

Here I am in Bangalore refulfilling my dream of completing my MBA at Christ University, one of India's top colleges. While I could have pursued my studies abroad, I couldn't bear to worry my mother any further. Dad, as always, was supportive of my decision. They love me immensely, and saying goodbye was tough.
I booked a cab to my new PG accommodation, opting to forgo the luxury of a bought apartment near the college. I want to carve out my own identity, away from my father's influence. Plus, I'm excited to have a roommate and start this new chapter.
The Bangalore winds and scenic views calm my nerves, but I know MBA life at Christ University will be demanding. Still, I'm eager to embrace this new journey and hope it's as rewarding as the city's tranquil beauty.
As the driver pulled up in front of the quaint two-storey villa, adorned with a colorful garden of tulips, lilies, and orchids, I couldn't help but marvel at its beauty. Dad truly outdid himself this time, knowing how much flowers soothe my soul. Although a bit far from college, I couldn't resist the charm of this place, especially knowing it was chosen with such care.
Stepping inside, nerves tingling, I glanced at the signboard, "Ms. Josephine D'Costa." She must be the owner, living in one room and renting out the other, my new abode. With a deep breath, I embarked on this journey of self-discovery, shedding the weight of my father's name to embrace my own identity as Shanaya. Oh, how I prayed for stream ength and guidance in the chapters ahead.
