Chapter 1
The Mysterious Author
The city burned beneath him—neon veins threading through Manila’s skin. Tyler Sterling watched from his glass fortress, the skyline a shimmering lie. Down there, everything looked alive. Up here, he felt hollow.
Success had come easily. The empire. The wealth. The power.
But not this.
Not her.
Her name glowed from the screen. Cassandra Hart.
He should’ve stopped reading. Should’ve closed the laptop.
But her words had gripped him.
Each sentence dripped with tension—slow, sinful, like a mouth dragging along a throat. The heroine in her book didn’t just want the man—she ached for him, hated him, surrendered anyway. Lust bled into rage. Desire twisted into something darker.
Tyler’s hand hovered over his chest, fingertips grazing his bare skin. His breathing had changed—shallow, tight. He adjusted in his chair, the leather creaking under him, cock hard beneath his trousers.
He poured whiskey with a shaky hand. The fire in his throat did nothing to calm the one blooming lower. Cassandra’s voice was in his head now—soft, commanding, unforgiving.
“Touch me like you mean it.”
His jaw flexed. A bead of sweat slid down his temple, even as the air conditioner whispered cool against his skin.
“This is insane,” he muttered, but it sounded more like a moan.
His palm drifted across his abdomen, brushing the hard line of muscle. He could still feel her heroine’s body in his mind—curves soaked in candlelight, lips parted in a breathless whimper, thighs trembling. She wanted to be undone. Just like him.
Tyler stood, pacing toward the bathroom like a man on the edge.
The floor was marble—cold, grounding—but the heat in his chest wouldn’t leave.
Steam rose as he turned the shower on. He stepped in. Let it scald.
The water hit his neck, his chest, and ran down his thighs.
He shut his eyes.
There she was. Not real, but real enough.
The woman from Cassandra’s pages. Bent forward. Lips slick. Eyes defiant.
He imagined her pressing against him, back arched, mouth gasping—
“Ahh…” he breathed, his head falling back against the tiles.
His hand slid down between his legs, slow at first.
His hips rolled forward as he stroked, water streaming over his abs, catching in the curve of his pelvis.
Pressure built in his gut. His breathing turned sharp.
“Ooh…” he gasped. A desperate sound. Raw.
The scene from the book wrapped around him like a silk turned noose.
“Harder. Take what you came for.”
He pumped faster, one hand braced against the cold tile, the other wrapped tight around himself.
His moans echoed—deep, broken things.
“Ahh—f-fuck,” he groaned, his voice cracking.
His legs trembled. His chest heaved.
He imagined her biting his shoulder, nails dragging down his back.
Her breath in his ear: You need this.
“Unh—aaah,” he gasped, body arching. His release hit hard, sudden—thighs clenching, back shuddering.
White streaks bled down the wall, warm water erasing them like nothing.
He stayed there, forehead pressed to tile. Breathing like a man dragged back from the dead.
His body hummed. But his mind? Ravaged.
What the hell had Cassandra Hart done to him?
Not just arousal.
She’d unlocked something—ancient, feral, starved.
He stepped out, grabbed a towel, and wiped the fog from the mirror.
Looked himself in the eye and didn’t recognize the man staring back.
Still half-hard. Still aching.
He picked up his phone, voice low, edged in smoke.
“Find her. I want everything. Her name. Her face. Where she sleeps.”
The woman who made him come undone with words alone—
He needed to know her.
Touch her.
Ruin her.
Or maybe just beg her to ruin him.
The room was thick with ink and breath. A heat lived here—not from the lamp, but from the want bleeding off the page.
Isabela Reed sat at her desk like a sinner at the altar, surrounded by notes torn at the edges, ink-stained drafts, and a laptop humming with secrets. Her fingers, smudged with black, hovered like spells over the keys, trembling between thought and need.
The desk was old. It creaked when she leaned in. The wood knew her—knew her weight, her rhythm, the pressure of her thighs when she shifted in frustration, or pleasure, or both. A candle burned low by her elbow, casting shadows across her collarbones. The glow didn’t chase the dark away. It made it richer.
She wasn’t just writing. She was offering herself—pulse first—to whatever possessed her.
The words didn’t come—they took. They carved her out, characters clawing for spine and blood. Desire seeped from the screen like heat through her skin. Every line she typed left a mark—just like the ones lovers left in the dark.
She paused, chest rising slowly, eyes trailing the shelves stacked with leather-bound notebooks. Each spine held confessions—inked memories of men who begged, women who bit, bodies that broke for love. Some of them still whispered when the night got too quiet.
Isabela smiled. Not sweet. Not soft. The way a predator smiles when it’s almost full—but not quite.
Her hand reached for a new sheet of paper, trembling not from fear but anticipation. She uncapped her black pen like a blade. The first stroke was violent, beautiful. It tore her open.
“Bleed for me,” she whispered—not to anyone real. Or maybe to herself.
The characters moaned back in ink.
Hours passed like touches that don’t end. The keystrokes pulsed—steady, then frantic. Each scene she built stripped her bare. She wrote need if it was scripture. Wrote power like it could taste. Wrote longing like it hurt to keep it inside.
She didn’t eat. Didn’t drink. She felt.
When the chapter ended, she sagged in her chair—like crashing from something holy and profane. She hit “publish” with a breathless gasp. Chapter Live. A cliffhanger. A wound left open.
Isabela stared at it, ruined and content.
The room smelled like ink and want. Her thighs ached from stillness. Her lips parted, dry. She reached for the lamp, but her hand paused midair. Her gaze lingered on the laptop screen like it might blink back.
Eventually, she stood.
She turned off the light, but the heat didn’t fade. Neither did the ache.
When she lay down in the dark, she didn’t sleep. Not really.
She dreamed of the next chapter.
Of the next sin.
Of the next time she’d let the story take her apart.
And rebuild her with fangs.
