The Realization
I woke up with a feeling in my gut. Not a good feeling. The kind that tells you something is not right.
My first sign is when my maid Mina walked into my room.
As she walked into my room I could instantly tell something was wrong. My maid, Mina was tough.
So why was it that I could see her bloodshot eyes, like she spent the last hour crying.
Before I was able to ask, she smiled at me, but it felt insincere. I could tell she was trying to keep something under the wraps.
“What’s wrong.” I said in my no nonsense voice. I worded it like a statement, so she couldn’t get out of it.
Her face briefly flashed of something I haven’t directly seen before.
”I’m so sorry dear. I will miss you quite a bit once you’re gone.” Said Mina.
Gone? My worst suspicions were confirmed. I was going somewhere.
Mina did another surprising thing that she never has done before. She gave me a massive hug, to which I first hesitated from the shock, but then hugged her back endearingly.
I was already scared of what the day would bring. So I braced myself.
Mina brought out a new dress I had never seen before. It was gorgeous. It was an emerald shade of green, looking almost as if it came from a fairy tale.
It was a short strapless dress with a slightly flared skirt, which still somehow managed to outline my curves. There was glittery sequins on the bodice that slowly faded down. It made me look a bit younger than I really was.
Slowly starting to realize what was happening I knew there wasn’t much I could do about it, so I just sat there as Mina brushed it and slightly curled it, to give it more volume.
I slipped into some white heels Mina gave me, and slowly started heading downstairs, to my father study.
I hesitated for a moment, looking back at Mina, and I only saw her face in despair for a moment until she realized I was looking and gave me an encouraging smile, so I would continue in the right direction.
As I wound down the stairs, I could feel my face freezing in place. I was honestly terrified. I see the door to my fathers study, take a deep breath, to gather all my courage and I open the door to head inside.
When I walk in I instantly notice my father is not alone, and I recognize Antonio, from a few of my fathers dinner parties.
Actually I find him a bit attractive, but I know to keep these things to myself. With me being the sole heir to my father’s company, I know that somewhere in the future, I will have an arranged marriage to someone, to benefit our dynasty. So I wonder why he’s here, until the puzzle pieces click in my head. Arranged marriage. Fuck.
