Chapter one: The Pine ape Sasquatch
Maine is heavily forested, one of the most if not the most forested states in the United States, and that means 85-90% forested, meaning things can hide easily. Our first cryptid is The Sasquatch, or as it is known here... The pine ape.
The Pine ape is seven feet tall and is bipedal and quadrupedal, it's more gorilla-like than bigfoot-like. matter of fact it is considered by some to be a separate creature, but most know it's The Sasquatch.
The Pine ape is known to chase people out of its territory if entered, but unlike bigfoot, the Pine ape variety of Sasquatch does not hurt anyone, it is more of a passivist than anything, leading some people to think it's a plant eater.
Here's the thing, not many people have seen the Pine ape. Due to how forested Maine is, people have usually seen it in upper Somerset County, Upper Piscataquist County, Upper Penobscot County, and all over Aroostook County, the uppermost and the biggest and most forested county.
Where in Aroostook though... Near Mount Khatadin of course, the natives of Maine say a hairy group of creatures rule the area of Khatadin which is in Baxter State Park.
The thing about the Pine ape is you can't find it, meaning it needs to find you, meaning only by chance will it ever be found. My best advice is to not do any vocals to lure it towards you, there is a big difference between Pine ape -Sasquatch- Vocals and human vocals, my best advice is to do wood knocking that is low like a bass, but still loud.
There are chances you could find it in Washington too, but not likely, besides, there is another cryptid there.
The locals of Aroostook will not tell you much, or any locals of Maine for that matter. See us Mainers, as we call ourselves, like to protect some cryptids of our great state, the reasons are poaching, too much press, and stuff like that, if the cryptid is dangerous though, or a huge thing, some will talk, but if you wanna learn about the Pine ape, my advice is to share a drink, a cigarette, or a cigar with a local, show you're friendly and a good person and then most will talk.
Some say the Pine ape can scale trees, and survive a thirty-foot drop, and some say they have red eyes, glowing eyes, or green glowing eyes. The ape can travel through rivers easily showing it has strength as Aroostook has a lot of really strong current rivers, and the ape bends trees across three or five other trees, showing it is smart enough to create a visual border of its land. The ape is known for having a bad temper, but like I said, it's more for intimidation and not to kill. Some people have tested using tobacco to lure it, most animals hate tobacco so they won't eat it, but the Pine ape -Sasquatch- has, with varying success, I know, let us give the ape with a nicotine addiction, but seriously the thing likes it.
Here is something that will help you with your travel.
One: A shotgun, a slug, in case a Moose finds you cause 60% of the time the Moose attracts and it is 90% fatal and a horrible way to die.
2: bug spray, the most dangerous thing other than a Moose is a tick due to lime disease,
And finally, number three, make sure to bring a tent, it could downpour at any time in Maine, especially Aroostook.
Now that you know this, it's time you've tried to find the damn thing.
See you next time for the chapter all about the Washington cryptid
