The Arrangement
Sophia's POV
The morning sun filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow across the small, cramped apartment I called home. I sighed as I stared at the stack of bills on the kitchen table, feeling the weight of responsibility pressing down on my shoulders. With a shaky hand, I reached for the coffee pot, desperate for the caffeine to kick-start my day.As I sipped my coffee, my thoughts drifted to the events of the past week. My mother's medical bills were piling up, and my father's factory had shut down, leaving him without a job. I had been working double shifts at the diner just to make ends meet, but it still wasn't enough. We were drowning in debt, and I didn't know how much longer we could keep our heads above water.Just then, the doorbell rang, interrupting my thoughts. I set down my mug and hurried to answer it, wondering who could be visiting so early in the morning. To my surprise, standing on the other side of the door was a sharply dressed man in a tailored suit, his expression cold and unreadable."Are you Sophia Williams?" he asked, his voice as smooth as silk.I nodded, feeling a sense of unease wash over me. "Yes, that's me. Can I help you?"The man handed me an envelope, his eyes never leaving mine. "You've been served," he said simply, before turning on his heel and walking away. With trembling hands, I opened the envelope and pulled out the legal documents inside. My heart sank as I read the words printed on the page: "Marriage Contract." I couldn't believe what I was seeing. This had to be some kind of mistake. But as I read further, my worst fears were confirmed. It was no mistake. My family was being evicted from our home, and the only way to save them from financial ruin was to marry a man I had never met: Lucas Sinclair, a billionaire businessman with a reputation for ruthlessness.I sank to the floor, the weight of the world crashing down on me. How could this be happening? I had always prided myself on being independent, on taking care of my family no matter what. But now, faced with the prospect of marrying a stranger to save them, I felt utterly helpless. Tears welled up in my eyes as I thought about what this marriage would mean. I would be bound to Lucas Sinclair for the rest of my life, trapped in a loveless union born out of desperation. And worst of all, I would be sacrificing my own happiness for the sake of my family. But as I looked around at the cluttered apartment that had been my home for so long, I knew I had no choice. I would do whatever it took to protect the ones I loved, even if it meant sacrificing my own dreams in the process. With a heavy heart, I rose to my feet and began to pack my belongings. The road ahead would be long and difficult, but I was determined to face it head-on. For better or for worse, my fate was now intertwined with that of Lucas Sinclair, and there was no turning back.
