Easy to read & efficient hook! ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3.7)
"Plot It's an adventure story with minimal tension and no conflict or antagonist to defeat. That being said it is lighthearted in tone and one would be able to enjoy this story easily. The author used an interesting decision to hook readers in by splitting each lead character to have their own arc in the story. However, each chapter didn't differ to much from each other and thus felt redundant. The title is engaging, but considering that Mimosa pudica only appears in one chapter, it feels like a lie. The cover is also more appropriate for scientific book about herbs. So perhaps 'The Dead Trail' or something else might be more fitting. POV Third person limited & first person limited-omniscient? On chapter one, the author used third person limited and it was written well, but chapter two till five we got a first person that's not utilised well. As for the epilogue it's the author narration. Characters The lead characters are Adam, Ethan, Drake & Amora. They're friends on a trip to Green Hill that encounter our supporting character, Esperanza—The Forest Ranger. Each of their own are fleshed out, but when they went their separate path on chapter two till six, we didn't get more intimacy with them, especially each chapter used first person POV. Not to mention the jarring situation when one speaks, then the rest were sure to follow. Our supporting character Esperanza got enough part to stand out on such little time. She had agency, voice and advanced the plot. Set Green Hill A scenic hill or perhaps mountain that provides stunning panorama for travellers, but a part of said Hill is ruined because of a mining activity. Writing style Easy to understand and focused primarily on characters. However Esperanza the supporting character seemed to get the best treatment, even more than our leads. Background was also described smoothly and vivid. One element needing improvement would be dialogues. Genre adherence Perfect for Adventure, but not enough for horror. "
