Summary

Everything in life, be it words or deeds, shapes us. It is constant process of becoming more truly who we are because of these outside and inward forces. In essence, we're all an amalgamation as a result of this unceasing and relentless blending and unification.

Going to War

You and are going to war it seems.

Things have been progressing

towards this inevitable confrontation

where for years we’ve traded verbal barbs

of one form or another.

Your weapon of choice

is to use my own words against me.

That’s pretty clever of you,

to take my weaknesses in order to strengthen your own.

It doesn’t cost you much in the way of energy

and it always hits me where it hurts the most.

For me, restraint is my ally.

You never know what I’m thinking (unless I tell you)

and it’s only when the strain becomes too much

that I finally unleash Hell in your direction.

Whose weapons have hit their mark

when the dust from our latest confrontation finally settles?

Are we evenly matched, comparing scar to scar?

Or are we just as equally divided as we were

before we went to war?

Everything is leading up once again

to where you and I will square off face to face.

Who will emerge the victor this time around?

Will it be you with your petty insults and slights,

or will it be me this time

with my arsenal of honesty, laser-precise?

You and are going to war it seems.

I can hear the drum beat cadence of the battle call

as we gather the tools and weapons in our arsenal.

I have my armor of everyday indifference firmly in place

with a mask for a face, ready for the confrontation.

Bring it on,

I am ready once more.

What doesn’t kill me only strengthens me

even as it eats away at my resolve

to face you in battle once again.
