Chapter 1: The Meeting.

How long has it been? Ten, twelve?, No, it has to have been more than that. When did I lose count, ugh, a hundred? My head hurts thinking about it, so I think I’ll just put the thought away. The first thing I need to do is figure out how I’m going to get out of this mess. My name is…Azreal Von Heidelberg? If I remember correctly, my family was some form of royalty in Germany. Was is the key word there, I think something happened where nobility wasn’t a thing there anymore. I Either way, it didn’t matter, I was somewhere in the States living. Oregon was the state name, or was it Washington? Why is my memory so fuzzy right now? I looked around at the forestry area I was in, looking at my hands and legs. Blood? Mine? No, there's a naked body laying at my feet with a puncture wound on the neck. Oh, I think her name was Veronica? What happened to her, did I stumble upon her corpse? I stood there for a bit looking at her corpse, it was pale, I put a hand on her cheek, cold. Standing there, the pain in my head was starting to fade, a bit of my memory was coming back to me.

I was a vampire, full blood at that.

Born and raised, odd isn’t it? Vampires are supposed to be “dead” which means their bodily functions didn’t work. Yes and no, as odd as it can be, if you’re born a vampire, everything works except for the fact that we still need blood to mentally function. Food can satiate actual hunger, but it doesn’t satisfy the need to drink. However if you’re “turned” into a full vampire, everything stops working except for the reproductive organs.

I was hungry, no, starved. I went for so long without feeding, I blacked out. That’s right, I was trying to lay low with the rumors of hunters coming to the states from Europe and I messed up. On top of other magical creatures, I have two major enemies to worry about now.

Hunters and Werewolves.

Anyways, two months, that’s all it took for me to finally lose my mind.

Veronica was a friend, and coworker. I just killed a friend and coworker, was I really that desperate? From the looks of it, yes. I need to get out of here. Should I bury her though? She needs to be found, so I should leave her here. I left her there and made my way back. I looked up at the sky when I was able to see the moon and stars. It was two in the morning on the dot. I lured her to the forest it looks like. From the looks of it, we drove here, and there’s her vehicle. Upon seeing it, I went over to her vehicle and got inside. I need to get back to the city, but the car needs to be taken care of.

It took about thirty minutes to get back to the city. I decided to leave her vehicle in this city's ghetto with the door open and key inside so it wouldn’t take long for someone to take it. That should steer the blame from me and onto whoever stole it. With that, I walked home, staying out of sight from cameras and others. As I was walking home, it seemed I forgot to take notice of where I was walking into. The scent hit my nose like a train.

How the hell did I forget to watch where I was walking? The first thing I did when I got to this city was figure out who’s over what. I was a lone vampire, I was strong, but I can still be overwhelmed if not careful. I walked into werewolf territory. What was the pack’s name again? The Crimson Fangs pack? Yeah, I think that’s the name of them. Shit, I need to get the hell out of here. Those fuckers can smell me from a mile away and in this state I don’t think I’d win. I’m too disorganized from earlier. Damn it! Damn it, Damn it, Damn it! I picked up my pace to get the hell out of this area.

Since this was werewolf territory, I was not familiar with the area that I was in. I can’t afford to get lost. I looked at the houses I was running past, all of them had lights off so they were probably asle-.

I slammed into something hard and fell to the ground. “Damn it!” I yelled.

“So this is the parasite that the patrol spoke about.” I heard from in front of me.

I looked up in front of me to see a few men standing there. Werewolves, I was caught. I sneered at them as I stood up, backing up to get some small distance and to think of something. Three of them, I don’t think the alpha is here so if I can get my bearings right I can get out of this. Not that I would have trouble with one anyways.

“Did you know we had these things in our city?” I heard one of them talk.

“Not that I was aware of, they tend to keep away from here.” Another spoke.

“Hold on, take another whiff of her, she wasn’t turned into one.” The one in front told the other two.

“You’re right. That’s probably why we didn’t notice her that well.” The one on the right said.

“From the looks of it, it fed recently.”

I stayed quiet, staring at them while trying to figure out an escape route. No way forward, I need to run back. I turned on my toes and went to run off. This was cut short by another figure that was standing there. However, something was strange. I felt strange, as if my cheeks were warming up and tingling.

“Damn it, why is this happening?” I asked myself.

“Hey hey, where do you think you’re trying to go?” I heard behind me.

“...Well this is interesting.” The one in front of me said to himself.

“Boss, why’re you here?” The first one behind me asked.

“Vampires are strong opponents, you three wouldn’t be able to take care of it by yourself if it was full blood.” He told them as he looked at me.

“You underestimate your beta boss, c'mon we could’ve handled it.” The apparent Beta spoke.

“...I don’t underestimate your ability Blake. However, the moon goddess seems to be intervening.” The alpha told him.

“What do you mean?” Blake asked him.

“Let her go for now, I don’t think she’s too big of a problem.” The alpha told him.

“Sir, it fed on someone and probably killed them.” Blake told him.

“You’ve heard the rumors haven’t you? Hunters have come from Europe, she probably hit her limit on refraining from feeding. Full bloods don’t need to fully kill their prey.

Look at her. Vampires don’t just waltz into werewolf territory, especially running like a chicken with their heads cut off. They’d be more meticulous and careful, hiding their scent.” The Alpha told them while keeping eye contact with me.

“....” I wanted to stay angry, but for some reason, I was feeling….embarrassed? What the hell.

“Sir, but still shou-” Blake went to say something.

“Just let her go and head back to the pact house.” The alpha told him.

“...Yes sir.” Black told him.

The group behind me left as they were ordered. The alpha however stayed where he was. Why was he telling them to leave?

“You look lost.” He told me. “Do you even know where you are?”

“No, my memory is fuzzy. You were right about the feeding.” I told him. Why was I talking to him?

“Heh, alright then. C’mon I can get you out of our territory.” He told me.

“...Why are you helping me?” I asked him.

“Right now, it’s complicated.” He told me.

“What’s complicated is you’re helping your enemy.” I told him.

“..That’s the complicated part. Let's get you out of here for now.” He told me as he offered his hand to me.
