Posterity of Estrangement

History is what the victor states. How will Dragon glorify the self-immolation act by hundreds of Tibetans in wake of her victory over the Lamas land? Is the victory defined by placing numerous electrical poles, surveillance, opening karaoke stores and huge buildings on an erstwhile barren plateau? Or the gratifying act of circulating videos of monks made to smile and praise the Communist regime which has stolen their homes, religion and above all, national identity? Does communism calls for social equality by annexation of land and culture of their people?

Self-immolation of numerous Tibetans as an ode to Buddhist teaching of non-violence, is, in fact, the most brutal expression of their oppression and intolerance. Setting oneself on fire, at an age, when you could have lived and contribute towards your country and culture, is ultimate crackdown of the fake veneer of civility and justice worn by China since 1950s. If you ponder over the matter, you realize that there is no difference at all between Jews killed during Fuhrer’s autocratic reign and young Tibetans lighting up themselves holding the portraits of their spiritual leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Self-immolation, hence, is a form of genocide committed by China, who is clearly on the path of being a dead ringer to the World War Germany.

This bravado is a direct consequence of decades of socialist, yet exploitative rule imposed by the Red army on Tibetans. Annexation is rather capturing of an area or land by a powerful empire/rule, yet, China has adopted a modern form of colonialism by annexing, exploiting and, then to counter the resistance, finally conferring the area as either an autonomous or special administrative region. Tibet Autonomous Region, though, literally, autonomous, is incapable to enact Tibetan language as mode of education, and has no say in government or defence, specifically in comparison to their Chinese counterparts. Whereas, autonomous status should affirm special rights to the designated region, Dragon greases the wheels by justifying her terrorism in the name of autonomy. Whereas Tibet autonomous region should have been rehabilitated with proper facilities to the remote plateau region, promotion of Tibetan language, religion and culture in par with modern standards, and amalgamation of Chinese and Tibetan cultures to foster nationalism, China is actually surveying each and every move of Tibetans fabricating them as separatists, making Tibetan language extinct, burning their scriptures and monasteries and openly condemning their spiritual leader.

What a pitiful current state of Tibet is, when young future generations are burning themselves alive on road and drinking gasoline to avoid capture by Chinese government, a democratic government is forced to be created and perpetuated on a foreign land! Have you ever imagined or heard of your own people being forced to administer from exile? Have you ever felt freedom to speak or study or express in that new land yet unable to accept that land as your own? How to pull yourself together to erase all sense of belongingness to your own home far away and accept foreign land as your new home?

Yes, you guessed it right, Tibetans are faced with this exact dilemma today. Either to accept the ever-changing-with-seasons-kinda-growth and development of the Chinese Tibet by compromising on your freedom, culture, religion and language, or make India your new home by relinquishing all feelings of homesickness in a place of which might never become citizens even. The brutal truth is TIBETANS ARE HOMELESS. They need free Tibet, their very land, people, relatives, animals and Bodhisattvas. They do not require a showy nametag of Autonomous, they need real autonomy to exercise their cultural festivals, religious ceremonies, to keep photos of the Dalai Lama hanging freely in their homes, to choose language for their education, to intermingle and compete with other cultures. Instead of surveilling Tibetans all the time, it is hightime, China keeps check on its own actions and convene peace talks with the Dalai Lama, and other Tibetan leaders to bring exploited as well as exiled Tibetan community back home. Not because Tibetans deserve this, rather every single human has the basic rights vested in him to be able to exercise freedom of speech, expression and education. And, if Tibetan issue is reprieved by usual upping of the antes by Chinese autocratic rulers, that day won’t be far when Tibetan language, like Latin language, would be termed as dead, hundreds of young people who might be reincarnations of present Lamas or His Holiness, would be burnt to ashes by self-annihilation, and subsequently China, like Germany will be disintegrated to pieces by her self-created autocracy and terrorism.
