Prologue

A short burly man walked through the rainy streets of London, unbothered by the rain. If one were to look closely they would have noticed he remained dry, not a drop of rain on his attire. Though he was immune to the rain, he was not when it came to clumsy humans.

“Oh my God!! I am so sorry!!!”

His lightning reflexes came into play, hands shooting out to stop the girl from planting face first into the sidewalk. She gasped, looking up at him. Round face, bright Hazel eyes staring up at him.

“I... I am sorry, I wasn’t watching...” She stumbled over her words, pushing her loose mass of hair away from her face.

“It’s fine, no harm done.” He replied, smiling warmly at her. She nodded, though the look of guilt did not leave her face.

“Have a lovely day.” He added before brushing past her to the bar, his friend was waiting and she was not one to keep waiting.

“What took you so long? And why on my earth would you invite me to a hovel?!” The woman in front of him snapped as he shrugged off his trench coat and sat down.

“Forgive my tardiness, as for the reason I invited you here, well... no one would expect two old gods to discuss matters of utmost importance in a place like this, now would they?”

Gaia sighed.

“What is this about, Atum?”

The old god leaned closer, placing his palms on the table.

“I felt him.”

“You also felt him 10 years ago.” She stated.

“No, this... this is different.” He insisted. “His island showed up off the coast of the Indian Ocean.”

“The same island that appeared 20 years ago in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean before disappearing?”

Atum let out a noise of frustration.

“We just have to go to the island, I am sure he is there. Once we rouse him from whatever sleep he is in everything will be well.”

“I am sorry Atum, as much as I try to have faith that Heka will come back, it fades with each passing decade. Maybe... maybe our friend has had en..."

“NO!!!” He shouted, getting to his feet and knocking his chair back in the process, gaining the attention of the other patrons of the bar who looked at them curiously. Gaia raised a perfectly carved eyebrow at him as he composed himself before sitting.

“I apologise for my outburst, but my pantheon is a mess, the false god is amassing followers, the other gods believe he is Magic reincarnated but I feel it in my bones, he is an imposter, I can prove that by bringing Heka back. Please Gaia, I need your help. Egypt can only survive so long without the Magic that created it.” He pleaded quietly.

The Earth goddess stared at the helpless war god in front of her, pity swirling in her heart.

“Very well... What do you suggest we do? And going to his island is a big No. Who knows what will happen the moment we set foot and it disappears with us on it?”

Atum frowned, bushy brows furrowed in contemplation before the bell rang, interrupting his thoughts, he looked up, staring at the woman that had walked in.

“I have an idea but I need your word that you will respond when I call upon you?”

Gaia paused, uncertainty filing her heart.

“I trust you not to do something Heka wouldn’t approve of.”

Atum stared at her, his eyes dark and emotionless.

“We have all done questionable things to save the people we love, My Lord will find a way to forgive me for the crime I will commit but waking Heka is paramount to saving Egypt.”
