"So . . . this has the makings of a good story. What this author could use is a good editor to help her polish and clarify what's happening and to whom. I'm a little puzzled by our heroine's choice of emotions; she seems a bit self-destructive. However, I am more puzzled by what hasn't been written - when, exactly is this story taking place? Is it the Regency era, or Victorian? Surely it can't be the Edwardian era, but who knows? And then here we are - well into the story - and I still have no clue what Lydia looks like, other than having gray eyes and a generous mouth. She thinks herself ugly, but we have no information about her letting us either agree or disagree with her self assessment. I would love to see this story expanded and enriched, with all its missing details restored, for the reader's pleasure."
