Chapter 1

LIAN CITY; Paradise on Earth. Built by a British family and almost destroyed by two teenage kids.

KASSIE'S POV:

"Kassie!" My mom called my name loudly. She was waiting for me on the couch with a strange woman. She looked younger than fifty but no younger than thirty. "This is my friend, Gabriela. Her and her son, William, will be staying with us for a bit." She says with her arm resting around Gabriela. "Ok. Where's William?" I ask looking around the living room. "Right here." William says holding a wine glass. "Nice to meet you." I say looking at him. "Hopefully this bottle of wine that I opened wasn't for a special occasion." He says looking at the bottle. "That bottle was supposed to be for my dad when he got out of jail." I say crossing my arms in anger. "Yeah? Crazy." He says rolling his eyes. "The hell is that supposed to mean?" I say unfolding my arms. "Your dad went to jail for drunk driving. It's you want to put him right back in jail." He says leaning against the wall and laughing. "Hmm, you wanna be a comedian, huh? In that case, you should go to the Balestro where your disrespect is actually funny." I say back heading back upstairs. I know I probably overreacted but I stand by my father. I spent thirty minutes doing homework and another thirty minutes scrolling on social media. The hour flew by and it was time for dinner. "I know you two got off on the wrong foot but I think you guys can be insanely close." Gabriela says holding her son's hand. "I don't. I can't be friends with people like her." He says his eyes darting to me. "People like me? You mean, polite, loyal, smart, funny, attractive? Yeah, you wouldn't want to be friends with someone who's nothing like you." I say back rolling my eyes.

WILLIAM'S POV:

Her voice is infuriating. SHE is infuriating. "I mean, why would I? Your only talent is flying to Hawaii on a private jet with skimpy bikini's and margaritas." I say taking a bite of spaghetti. "Weird. I thought that was your skill but I guess the only one you have is being an asshole." She says her voice getting more annoyed every sentence. "Yeah, it is. Took me awhile to develope such a good personality." I say back. She puts up her middle finger and goes upstairs. I stand up and head towards my room as well. My mom comes in a few minutes later and shuts the door behind her. "This isn't our house. In fact, we have no house. Which means whatever teenage hormones are going through your body, need to be put under control." She says angry. I laugh at her face and she folds her arms. "It's not my fault you went batshit crazy on drugs and burnt our house down. In fact, it's not my fault at all. I have my problem under control, do you?" I said putting the blanket over my body. "Goodnight." My mom says with angry tears in her eyes. She closes the door and I take a breath. This has been happening for years, I'm done. Hopefully this new house will do her and me some good.
