Introduction to Homo Theria
At the beginning of time, there were several species encompassed under the genus ‘Homo’. According to human science, all but one died out. This is inaccurate. There are, in fact, three more branches to the genus Homo by the name of Homo Theria, Homo Aquta, and Homo Amphibia. Known in legends as Therianthropes, Merfolk, and Selkies.
We will focus on the species Homo Theria.
In the following sections, we will cover the basic traits of Homo Theria, including appearance, vocalization/language, mating, hierarchy, and spiritual practices.
But first, we need to answer the question: What is Homo Theria?
Homo Theria, known collectively as Therians, are a species of dual souled, shape shifting humanoids that evolved alongside Homo Sapien. Originally, Homo Theria were the natural predators of Homo Sapien, but over time, and through the leadership of the High Alpha, they have long since ceased hunting Homo Sapien, and instead share food sources.
Many believe that Therians’ shapeshifting ability into wolves, big cats, or bears is the origin of Therianthrope legends (e.g., people cursed to shift into beasts during the full moon). Scholars propose that the sight of therians shifting into animal form during hunts, when humans still depended on them for food, was possible because of the increased light of the full moon.
Some believe that the biting aspect of the legends originates from the subspecies of therians known as beasts, which we will explain in greater detail in later sections.
For some time, the greater human race lived in fear of therians and hunted them down to extinction in roughly 400BCE, but not before the last of their kind’s spiritual leaders took measures to ensure continuation of their species. After fleeing their original lands in the Southern and Northern Americas, the last of their kind’s spiritual leaders created a temple cave somewhere in the fertile crescent. Several hundred years later, a human prince by the name of Xerces, along with his three younger brothers, their guards, their advisors, and their wives, found the temple while on a caravan to a meeting with other nobility in a neighboring kingdom.
The twenty young people became the first new therians and would become the source of the entire race’s rebirth.
*Note: This hybrid is gradually reverting to the original species, gaining pure therian physiology. The physiology in this guide will cover both ‘hybrid’ and ‘pure’ therians.
Today, therians mostly live in small towns exclusively for their kind, though a few have integrated into human society. However, because of some cultural and physical traits, this can be exceedingly difficult and, therefore, isn’t common practice.
Therians are a highly sexual race that live in family groups called packs. Packs comprise two or more mated pairs and their offspring. The adults use sex in spiritual practices, as a way of bonding, relieving stress between pack members, and simple recreation. Because of their highly sexual nature, they are immune to communicable illnesses and have developed some very interesting physiological adaptations that set them even further apart from their human counterparts.
