Truly excellent writing
"I don't like writing reviews. At all. 'Cause I can't keep it short 😅 But dude, I'll write you one. (Hopefully a short one this time? 😂) 'Cause you deserve more exposure. I first read darkblonde1's extremely well-written "The Rejection on the Alpha". And immediately became a fan. The superb writing style, the many and intriguing plot twists and especially the excellent character development is what originally drew me in. And "The Lone Dove" did not disappoint. The language and the detailed world-building, heck, the whole effort being put into the story - it all pulls you right in. At times I just had to read a paragraph again and again, because it was written so poetically and full of imagery, pulling back the curtain for us, and exposing the pealing plastic paint and poorly patched cracks of Poppy's secret world. Double 🖤 the dialogue. Especially the very dry and sometimes witty banter between Poppy and Maximus. Poppy couldn't be drier, lol. And between Poppy and Diana. Gotta love Diana 🙂↔️ And the plot twists! darkblonde1 slowly builds up tension before poof! twisting the plot in a totally refreshing way 🤯 She creates suspense by giving the reader small pieces to the puzzle, and then holding back some of the pieces. (Who. The. Bloody. Heck. Is. Celestial? 😅) She encourages the reader to think: “what if…?” and: “nooo, something terrible is going to happen"! This, again, is something you can only do well if your reader is invested in the characters and truly get to care about them. Which brings me to the character development. All the characters are well developed and are so worth settling in to. They are crafted with care and complexity, and you truly feel for them as they struggle with all sorts of conflicting emotions. My heart sometimes broke for both Poppy and Maximus. (And I really kinda wished that Ivan and Carter could get their own stories with their own HEA's 🙉). I loved reading Poppy's journey as she went from an emotionally detached young woman, to a woman that learns to love and trust those around her, and to realising just how strong and unique she is. She learns that the way to deal with all the threats is not to sacrifice her love for those around her, but to fight for herself and those she love. (*With tongue firmly in cheek*: Don’t be discouraged by this question please, darkblonde1: Why the hell does Poppy not have more guards? More please! Lol. Your highly entertaining readers have so much control of your writing. Not. 😋 Poppy just could not get enough guards 🤷♀️🙂↔️). I will definitely recommend this story, and can't wait to read Book II."
The lone dove #1
"Good story, well written, plots was good. Sometimes to much info. Feel chapters was to long. For me to many main characters. But overall it was good. "
Less is more.
"I skipped about 8 chapters never missed a thing. To much repeating. Less is more"
