Fantasy and Folklore
"This is a clever melding of traditional fantasy elements with the folklore and mythology of the Aborigines. In fact, this story strikes me as quite Gaimanesque, in its ability to balance the everyday with the supernatural, much as we see in American Gods, etc. It's a fascinating story, beautifully told and feels like the prologue, perhaps, to a much larger work--though it succeeds perfectly well on its own, too. Ellen has a great flair for placing characters in a believable world and adding just enough touches to allow us to willingly suspend our disbelief to accept these more fantastic elements. I'm impressed with how different this is from her other story, the allegorical "War of the Words," which shows the range of her interests and abilities. Look forward to reading more!"
