In the sea cave

I was free, free to run. Ever since I woke up on that rock after feeling the water invade every fiber of my being for the first time I felt alive. On that rock I felt my heart beating, the blood in my veins, the wind coming at me making me feel every single drop of water on my body, still locked in my black diving suit and torn by the fury of the water and the rocks. I felt the sea calling me, the water was inviting and terrible at the same time, but the desire to touch it was stronger than me so I dived in. It was incredible, I ran (or slipped) on the water at incredible speed, I was euphoric, crazy with the joy of that freedom. I only then realized that my body had become water and had merged with the sea.

I’ll meet him that evening. He had had the same story as me, with the difference that he had almost found what he was looking for. He was tall, with black hair and pale skin, a long black dress clung to his body making his slim form stand out, his beautiful black eyes watched you all the time with inquiring and haughty intent. Even though it was nice to have someone to talk to, the problems also began with him: after entering a well-hidden tunnel among the rocks and climbing a ladder that led to a layer of water that sucked me in, throwing me onto a sandy island who knows where, he explained to me what exactly I was looking for and why it could not and should not be found. I didn’t understand: apart from that little island there was nothing else around, just water, but he explained to me that what I was looking for wasn’t material. Another thing I will not forget is the arrival of a dark iron ship in that quiet bay with bright and cheerful colors, the snarling cry to dive and the look he gave it, before he told me to follow him. It was strange to see in that shape, but I watched four divers enter the water armed and begin to descend in the same direction I had descended. They found nothing, however, because I watched them meticulously study every small opening in the rock wall.

Afterwards I have a lapse in memory, I only know that I woke up in a dark room, with my hands and feet tied to an iron chair; a middle-aged man, almost bald and with a very unpleasant frown spoke to me and told me to bring him what we were both looking for, I accepted (only because he had assured me that after giving it to him he would give me back my freedom, which the my spirit craved more than anything else and suffered, making my body suffer too). With a pretext I managed to have myself taken back into the tunnel which this time however was a dead end; my heart immediately sank and I began to touch the damp rock wall in various points, then I turned and saw his expression: he had an expression of euphoric, terrible madness and looking into my eyes he seemed to read my mind, then he shouted in an angry and amused tone, “Water?“, a very powerful jet of water came out of his mouth which flooded almost everything, I was unable to transform and soon I felt the same sensation of terror as when I had drowned for the first time and how first time I found myself on a rock, this time with the awareness of what had happened and he was there, standing above me covering the bright solar disk, and he said to me “The sea gives, the sea takes away if you betray it!” .
