Young Countess Gloria de Sindi has lost all her family and estate. She is at the bottom of Paris. Will she survive? Will she avenge her father and brother? What is ahead: poverty or prosperity? This novel is about the people who value freedom and choice. They can take revenge, but they value peace above all other things. They can forgive and start life from the beginning. It is the middle of the seventeenth century. Gloria de Sindi, daughter of an impoverished aristocratic family, lives in the East of France. Her beloved mother dies when she is only fourteen. By the age of sixteen, Gloria has lost both her brother and father—Antoine is mysteriously killed on his way home, and Jean is wounded a bit later and dies too. Gloria swears to avenge both of them. Unable to pay her father’s debts and unwilling to give her castle to the creditors, she burns it down and leaves for Paris, together with her companion Matilda. In Paris, Gloria works as a maid in the tavern. She recollects there is her father’s yacht in Marseilles, and she goes to the sea together with Matilda. Shortly after that, their yacht crashes. Lord Edward Lorrell and his ship “Victoria” save them. Lord Lorrell, English aristocrat in exile, half pirate, half merchant, leads his ship to the New World. Gloria admires him, but will she be able to love him?
