Chapter 1

“He’s gone.” A gasp came from my sister’s throat right before she said, “No, No, No, he... He went to get me flowers, he isn’t gone, he can’t be gone, No.” I put my hand on her shoulder to give some sense of comfort. “I’m sorry, it is a Hit and Run case. We can’t do anything about it, sweetie where’s your mom? How about you send her to the front desk so we can work out the details.” The nurse looked into my eyes while saying this. “My mom passed away when I was 7, but I’m 19 now so I can legally look at the details, just give me a moment” I responded. As soon as she heard that I noticed the pity in her eyes for me, for us and I always despised that look.

My mom was never really a part of my life before her death as she was a famous lawyer traveling all over the states for her cases and hearings meanwhile our dad took care of us. Her death came as a shock to most of us. She had a reputation for being fearless and never shying away from the truth, which ultimately led to her tragic death. She was handling the case of a corrupt politician in Los Angeles when a hitman was hired to kill her. we never figured out how she was dead, all they told us was it was a hitman who poisoned her food.

I’ve discovered that those who conceal the truth will do everything to push you away when you pursue it.
