Poem
This poem was written as a tribute to my mother for my high school graduation.
Not sure what to call
Someone who gives their all.
Not sure what to say
To someone who has gone out their way.
Guiding and protecting, no matter
Come what may.
There is always this one person giving
Of their best anyway.
Never lacking care and affection,
To me, you give.
Your love—beyond compare—you give.
Finding the school fees and the bus fare.
Because any obstacles come, you're well prepared.
Facing the hard life without fear,
Doing what she has to do to give
Her child a different life from hers.
But who said life doesn't have
Cobblestones, pebbles and quarries?
Knowing her—determined, strong-minded,
With purpose and intent, she carries.
Merci, gracias, thank you are not enough
To express what I want to tell you.
But for this sonnet's sake:
Mom, I love you.
