Chapter 1

It was unfitting for the Son of Argus to become distracted by an Earthrealmer, of all people. It bothered him to no end. Yet, there was a certain charm about her that drew him to her, just as the moon drew in the ocean tides. She was humble and kind in all that she did and spoke respectfully to all those around her. Even in battle, she showed her opponents respect, even if they did not return it.

She was quite young, almost too young by Edenian standards, but even that did not extinguish his intrigue. She acted like a royal lady, mature and elegant. Her movements in the way she walked and fought were so graceful. Her manner of speech reflected her maturity. Her appearance was not only elegant, but mystical and unique. Her hair was a light, silvery lavender and her eyes glimmered like amethyst, standing out from her pale, porcelain skin. The self-proclaimed prince and demi-god had to suppress his ire. He had other things to do. He couldn’t let this slip of a woman distract him.

Yet, the woman continued to invade his thoughts. As it turned out, with a little bit of eavesdropping, she was supposed to be the direct descendant of a moon goddess. Hah. The irony was certainly not lost on him if she was, indeed, made out to be that legendary figure. He wondered briefly for a moment about unleashing his power. Would his water be helplessly drawn to her like the tides of the sea? He didn’t think so. He was powerful. He had control over himself and his magic.

Until his eyes met hers.

If the waters of the ocean were drawn in by the captivating power of the moon, what made him think that he could resist the draw of her eyes? She gave him a sweet, shy smile before her attention was diverted to the one announcing the next tournament matches. Rain was an absolute fool that he could pull away. He had hoped that with their upcoming fight, he could send her home and put an end to the constant distraction.

================

As a high mage, Rain had little time and little interest in pursuing dalliances. Not with his ambitions at hand. This woman, this so-called goddess, however, had kept his attention the entire time. His concentration during their match had faltered, but not at any crucial point, fortunately. Still, that aggravated him. However, it was when she was down on her knees that made him even more inclined towards her.

The way she looked up at him from her position made it look like she had been worshipping him. Thinking for a moment, he found that he liked the thought of it. He was a prince and a demi-god, and he deserved everything that came to him. He deserved to be worshipped. She bowed to him at the end of the match, despite her defeat, and that certainly boosted his ego even more.

Out of all of the Earthrealmers, the young woman was the only one who showed him respect. By the gods, she had even given him a gift! It was a beautiful moonstone that was carved into the shape of a crescent moon. An appropriate gift, he thought. He demanded the best of craftsmanship, and this was, by far, the most superior work he had ever seen.

“For the Son of Argus and Prince of Edenia.” She had quietly said.

Some gods recognized other gods on sight. Whatever doubts that Rain had of her heritage, they had been completely erased. A small glow upon her forehead revealed the outline of a crescent moon, confirming what he had heard about her. Her lifespan, he deduced, was more than likely that of an Edenian and explained her youth. By the gods, it would mean that it was far more likely to see her at the next Mortal Kombat tournament than her companions. He certainly hoped so.

It just wouldn’t do for her to worship him and not be worshipped in return. Such a beautiful goddess deserved it.
