The Unseen

A violent bang on the door wakes me up just like the past two days. I sat there for a minute convincing myself that it was just a hallucination but the banging was constant.

My heart started racing. I approached the door and grabbed the knob. The banging stopped and I heard footsteps moving far away.

I opened the door and saw someone running upstairs. It felt like Dèjá Vu. I rushed upstairs in pursuit.

The bad feeling in my gut intensified as I approached the top storey. The door in the front slam shut, I haven't dared to enter my twin's room after her death.

The very sight of her room brings back my painful memories. This must be my stepbrother's prank, who is two years younger than me, to scare me but something says it was not him this time. I gathered all my courage and opened the door.

I gasped in dread, I couldn't move. It felt as if my whole body froze. Wherever I saw there was blood, the corners were surrounded by thick cobwebs. I saw her body hanging from the ceiling. Upon witnessing such horror, I squealed.

A concerned voice called out to me, "Rhea! Are you ok dear?" asked my mum, hugging me.

"sh..she's hanging from the ceiling." I said, trembling with fear.

"NO!!! She's not here. It's just your imagination." my mum said.

"She's going crazy. We better take her to a psychiatrist." My stepfather told, rolling his eyes.

My mum stood silent thinking about his suggestion. I can see my stepbrother smirking. I hate them. I ran past them ignoring their calls, went to my room and shut the door behind me.

I crashed on my bed and shut my eyes. I drifted into the past thinking about our sweet times together.

When my dad was alive everything used to be so merry. He used to take us to fishing and to watch movies on Sunday.

After my dad passed away my mum kept herself busy. Me and my twin were heartbroken. We couldn't let go and wanted him back. In a desperate attempt to bring him back we started some kind of a dark ritual but then the realization hit me hard that even if he comes back, it won't be the same. The time we had together is something which belongs to the past.

As I stopped the ritual, she became furious and started to quarrel with me. I left the room in disappointment but little did I know that it would be the last time I see her.

I couldn't take it anymore so I opened my eyes and said "I have had enough!!! Please take me with you." then I saw her as she manifested before me, smiling at me as softly as ever.

She reached for my hand as I reached for her's and then the darkness engulfed me. We were once again reunited in the shadows.

truben21: It took me a while to get into the flow of this story, but once I did, I was hooked. The female lead step from naivety to siren was a little fast for me, but I guess it needed to be, to move the story along. I can't wait for the next story, with the cliff hanger whetting my appetite.
