Summary

My name is Edward Sully, and I am a detective, people around me will say that I work alone with no partner and I never had one in my entire 10 years of career but the truth is - I did. it's something only I remember. I remembered things I shouldn't remember. I am alive when I shouldn't be. And this is my story! P.S.- I am not good at the synopsis, give it a try if it catches your interest. ----------------------------------------- I don't own any images used in the story, they belong to their rightful owner. Prologue -The Loop

OVER HERE! I heard my team leader and partner Mark Cooper’s loud voice yelling from across the street.

Did he find something?

I wondered as I changed direction and ran towards him. He did not say anything but kept staring at whatever he was staring at while squatting down. Something wrong?- I asked but he just shook his head and got up with a sigh nothing was all he replied.

I held my frustrated sigh and just stood in silence with him while waiting for our other team members to join us and hopefully tell us that they found something useful.

You know I always feel that we are just a step closer to catching whosoever is behind all these but he began speaking but stopped and let out another sigh -we always hit the dead end as if it was not even a clue that we were chasing- I finished.

Another silence surrounded us, we turned when we heard footsteps behind us.

When Alex and Natasha - our other team members reached us and by the look on their faces I can conclude it was a failure on their end as well

Anything? Asked Mark -Nope ,Natasha replied.

Let’s get back to the station and discuss whatever we have till now and see if Chloe found something, hopefully we might get a new lead. I said while trying to sound optimistic

Alright, Mark replied and started walking in the direction of our car in silence and I knew all four of us were thinking about the same thing.

Alex started driving back while we sat in silence, mostly disappointed over another failure. I know that this case is weighing heavily on each of our shoulders, and we have no definite answer.

Here we are- Natasha stared speaking as we were about to turn around the corner I looked back at the place where we just stood and hiding in the darkness I saw a figure staring back at me.

-STOP I yelled and jumped out of the car even before it came to a full stop.

Mark exited next and looked at me silently -I think I just saw it, I saw The Shadow.

I informed when I felt 4 pairs of eyes on me while still looking ahead.

I wanted to run towards it, to give a chase, to catch it, this is the first time we got a glimpse of it in 2 months since we started investigating the murder case that has the entire south of Folks City terrorized.

ENOUGH!! Mark yelled and took hold of my arms in a tight grip enough we are going back - he continued while pushing me into the car still maintaining the tight grip.

I would have tried to sake him off, fight him but his eye told me he would do anything to keep me from going after it.

I looked at Natasha and Alex, they looked oddly at peace as if we didn’t have a murderer on the loose or worse close to us.

Alex started driving again, silence returning around us -Here we are- Natasha spoke as soon as her voice fell I jerked my head towards her, but she was still looking out through the car window, Alex had an eyebrow raised indicating that he was listening and Mark leaned forward to hear her properly.

Everything would have been a perfect replica of us from 5 minutes ago and I would have considered seeing anything that might be the Shadow as a desperate play of my brain if only the ache from Mark’s grip was not there, constantly reminding me that it was not my imagination.

I sat there half listening and half analyzing as my team members started discussing how we started the chase and how we all lost our leads, and how we are going back empty-handed yet again but for me, it is nerve-wracking because we have had the same conversation again and again as it somebody is playing this part of a play on a loop but what scares me more is that my team members are yet to realize this.
