1976: The Amityville House
Me, Ed, Lorraine and Drew sit around a table with a couple of other reporters and a few other people, me and Lorraine getting ready to go under and try to see the other side. “Okay, are we ready? Then let’s get started” Ed asks, continuing when everyone nods in reply. I turn to Drew and nod at him, telling him to shut the curtains, which he does so with a small smile at me.
“I’d like you to quietly close your eyes. Invision yourself in a halo of glowing white light. It will protect you” Lorraine instructs and we watch as everyone in the room does so, me and Lorraine looking to each other before taking each other’s hand and closing our eyes. My eyes snap open and I am standing up so I turn around and see all of us sitting around the table, Lorraine appearing next to me and we smile at each other before we head upstairs.
We move through the house, seeming seeing and doing the same things, opening doors to the bedrooms and cocking an invisible gun before shooting the parents first, then the three siblings. After we fire the last shot, me and Lorraine gasp and fall to the ground as we realise what we did. Me and Lorraine then see a little boy with white eyes crouched at the top of the stairs before he runs down them, us following him.
“Lorraine? Lorraine, we’re through, we’re through, it’s time to come back” we hear Ed say and we see Drew holding onto me and Ed onto Lorraine as they try to bring us back. “I have to see” me and Lorraine say at the same time, causing Ed and Drew to look at each other in shock. “Allie, you need to come back” Drew squeezes my arms, a worried look on his face.
I look at Lorraine and the door to the basement opens, revealing the little boy standing there and then running down the steps. We follow him and end up in the basement where the dead children all stand and Lorraine pulls a blanket off a mirror, revealing a nun to be standing behind us and we turn around, seeing nothing before turning back to the mirror and seeing the nun closer and again, we turn around and see nothing so we look back to the mirror to see the nun standing right in front of us.
She grabs me and Lorraine by the throat and pushes us backwards, releasing us and disappearing, a crash sounding out from next to us. Me and Lorraine spin around towards it and see chairs falling down, revealing a figure standing in the darkness and I squint, making it out to be Ed. I gasp as a sharp wooden object plunges through his chest, killing him and Lorraine screams from next to me before disappearing as she wakes up. I hear Ed and Drew upstairs yelling our names but I stay in the basement as another figure walks out of the darkness.
I realise it is Lorraine and I take a step forward, thinking she is back under. “Lorraine?” I call out and she flies past me and smashes into the wall, a gasp emitting from my throat as a dark mark appears around her neck and scratches form all over her face and arms. I see the same nun standing in the corner of the room, snarling and growling at Lorraine and she chokes in pain as the mark around her neck gets darker. “Why… didn’t… you.. save me?” Lorraine chokes and a tear slips down my cheek as she stops moving, her eyes open and staring at me, lifeless as the nun laughs behind me.
I scream in horror and step backwards, closing my eyes and opening them again to realise that I am back at the table and falling off the chair. I hit the floor with a thud and crawl backwards, my head and back hitting the wall as I sob. “Allie! It’s ok! It’s ok! It’s me, it’s Drew!” Drew crouches down in front of me, his hands on my shoulders as I breathe heavily and continue to sob. He pulls me into him and I sob into his shoulder, gripping his shirt with as much strength as I have left.
Ed’s POV:
Lorraine and Xander gasp at the same time, inhaling deeply as their hands shake. “Lorraine? Lorraine, we’re through, we’re through, it’s time to come back” I open my eyes and wrap my arms around Lorraine, Drew doing the same with Xander. “I have to see” Lorraine and Xander whisper at the same time and I look to Drew with my eyes wide to find him looking at me the same way.
“Allie, you need to come back” Drew squeezes Xander’s arms as he tries to bring her back. About a minute later, Xander gasps loudly again before Lorraine screams and waves her hands around, causing Drew to jump up and fling open the curtains before returning to Xander’s side. “LORRAINE!” I yell trying to calm her down and she opens her eyes to look at me.
“Ed. This is as close to hell as I ever want to get” she cries before I pull her into a hug. “Allie! You need to wake up! NOW!” Drew yells, shaking Xander’s shoulders as she remains under. “Alex, sweetie. Wake up” Lorraine moves away from me, wiping her tears quickly as she puts her hand back on top of Xander’s.
“Lorraine?” Xander whispers, sounding scared and we all frown. Xander gasps and her head twitches to the side slightly, as if she is looking at something before she gulps and a tear slides down her cheek, Drew’s eyes widening. Suddenly, the candles start flickering and something shimmers off her and then Xander lets out an ear-piercing scream and she flings herself backwards off her chair, scurrying backwards until she hits the wall as she sobs. “Allie! It’s ok! It’s ok! It’s me, it’s Drew!” Drew quickly drops down in front of her and she hugs him, clawing onto his shirt as she sobs. Lorraine looks to me with a worried look on her face and just then Xander goes limp in Drew’s arms, her sobs ceasing and Drew frowns before pushing her back against the wall.
“Allie? Sweetheart? Allie wake up” Drew quickly becomes worried, looking to me for help. “Ed, help me man!” he cries, brushing her hair out of her face. I jump out of my chair and slide next to her, taking her head in my hands and feeling for a pulse as Lorraine takes her hands in her own. “Ed” she says and I look over, seeing Xander’s shaking violently. Drew sees this and picks her up, heading outside to the car and he slides in the back, laying Xander down on the backseat as Lorraine tells one of our friends to get all the equipment and bring it back to our house.
“Come on Allie” Drew whispers in the back, stroking her hair as his leg bounces up and down anxiously. When we get her back to the house, we lay her on her bed in her room and she breaths shakily, her eyelids fluttering as she tries to open them and she hums as she shifts slightly. “Xander? It’s alright, you’re home. I’m here okay?” I sit on the bed next to her and hold her hand as she opens her eyes properly, blinking before she squeezes my hand. “Lorraine?” she asks, her voice barely above a whisper.
“I’m here sweetie” Lorraine strokes her hair as Xander looks over to her. “Did you see it?” she whispers, tears rolling down the side of her face. “See what? I saw- what you saw” Lorraine glances up at me before changing her words. I frown at her before looking back at Xander who is shaking her head.
Alexandra’s POV:
“No not that. Afterwards” I look at Lorraine with a frown. “Hon, Drew, could me and Alex have the room please?” Lorraine looks to the men and Drew goes to protest but I look at him and mouth ‘it’s okay’ and he walks out with Ed. “I saw the nun kill that poor man, then I woke up but you were under longer than me” Lorraine says after a moment, taking my hand.
“That poor man? Lorraine, do you not know who that was?” I ask her, shocked at how she didn’t recognise him. “Should I have known him?” Lorraine narrows her eyes as if she was thinking back to that moment. “Yes! Lorraine, that poor man that died was Ed” I sit up a little too quickly and shut my eyes as I wait for the dizziness to go away, Lorraine placing her hand on my back as she blinks a few times in confusion.
“How could you tell it was him? It just looked like a shadow to me” Lorraine adjusts how she’s sitting on the bed, sitting in front of me with her legs crossed. “It was like he stepped into the light, I saw his face” I explain. “I didn’t see that. I just saw him die then I came to” Lorraine shakes her head. “Wait, you said afterwards. What else did you see?” she stops suddenly, looking up at me curiously.
“Ed died and then you disappeared from next to me. I heard Ed and Drew yelling from upstairs and then a figure stepped out from the shadows. They got thrown against the wall next to me and they were pinned up there. All these scratches and bruises started forming on their skin and a bruise formed around their neck, choking them. I saw the nun in the corner of the room snarling and growling at the figure and when I looked back they said something before they stopped moving and stared at me with lifeless eyes” I explain, wiping my tears as I did so.
“You knew who it was didn’t you?” Lorraine asks slowly and I nod. “Alex, who was the figure?” she asks me softly and I open my mouth but no sound comes out and the tears start falling again. “You” I barely whisper, blinking away the tears. “And what did I say?” Lorraine inhales, tears forming in her eyes. “You- you said ‘Why didn’t you save me?’ and then you died” I start crying again and Lorraine pulls me into a hug, rubbing my back softly. “That’s not gonna happen alright? I promise, me and Ed aren’t going anywhere” she soothes me and Ed knocks on the door, opening it when Lorraine allows him in.
“Do I get to know what you spoke about?” Ed smiles, sitting down on the bed next to Lorraine. “Not yet hon” she rubs his arm and he nods his head with a defeated smile. “Well, are you both okay?” he changes the subject, looking between me and Lorraine and we both nod.
“Xan. Something happened just before you screamed” Ed starts hesitantly. “What? What happened?” I instantly become worried, looking between the two people in front of me. “Just before you screamed, this, I don’t know, light came from your body, same as when we first met. The candles all around the room flickered and then you screamed and it stopped. It was a yellowy-orange light that just shimmered off of you” Lorraine explains slowly, confused by her own words.
