The story

There this is a story some people find themselves drawn to. It is the story of a little creature, that to me and to you they would be no bigger than a pea. These amazing tiny creatures called a Bumblesnout are very hard to see but they are never hard to hear.

They have a loud roar that any creature of any size will fall with a great…

THUD!

If they are too close to the sound.

The sound does not affect you if you are another Bumblesnout or live deep, deep underground.

The Bumblesnout family have pride in being the only ones of their kind.

They live in a burrow in the corner of a beautiful forest. This forest they keep safe from unwanted guests. All of the Bumblesnout family look after this forest by planting flowers, growing vegetables but the most important thing of all is roaring! Their burrow was not much but it was there with 3 rooms and a kitchen. It was a very cosy home.

So what is a Bumblesnout? You might wonder...

Well they have tiny hands like a hamster or a mouse which really help with climbing or reading.

Their back legs make it easier for running and you might say it looks more like hopping as they look a little like rabbit's back legs.

Along with a thin rat-like tail that is so flexible to help with balance also a big triangle shaped snoot so that alway helpful to know where they are going and what they are doing.

With super soft fur like velvet that is fiery red and ash brown in colour.

The best thing about a bumblesnoot is their job.

By roaring they protected the forest from any danger as this is their duty.

In the forest of old their lives are just four tiny Bumblesnouts.

Two children.

A boy called Samuel and a girl called Charlie.

These two, even though they are twins, don't get along much. They are very different from one another.

Charlie’s roar is very strong for a start.

Her secret to her strength is that she is never wrong, or so she believes.

Charlie can run and hop all day and not even get tired. She finds climbing fun and jumping easy.

She would almost glide through the trees.

Her dream is hopefully to be the protector of the forest one day, after her dad of course.

Samuel is very creative and smart.

If there is something he does not know, it is not worth knowing about!

He likes to spend his spare time with his head and snoot in a book, reading about all the creatures that live around their home.

He is much quieter than his sister, his roar is more of a squeak.

What he lacks in bravery he makes up for in wit.

Papa is very loud but has a big heart.

Momma is wise and smart.

Every morning and night Papa Bumblesnoot would roar with all of his might, and to keep away anything from their home to keep his family safe from harm.

After all, Bumblesnouts are so very small.

That morning Samuel, like most days, woke up first.

Today he picked up a book about landscapes and rocks, which he found interesting.

He went on a walk around the forest with a book in hand of course.

Next to wake up was Mamma and Papa.

Mamma got straight to cooking breakfast, whilst Papa walked around the land making sure that everything was in order. Charlie was last to wake up.

Today she got up in a huff then the train began.

High up in the trees, jumping and fighting away some leaves, she did all of this with great ease. Getting stronger by the day there was nothing that stood in her way.

From the moment Charlie opened her eyes and even in her sleep, she dreamt about being the only protector of the forest and how great that would be.

Little did she know that day would come sooner than she thought.

Soon it came Papa’s time to roar like all the many mornings like he had done before.

Rrroo…

Rro…

Papa could not roar, his voice was sore. The family looked in shock and horror, this has never happened before.

When Papa tried to roar he could not, his voice had gone!

“Oh dear, oh dear, what has happened here?”

Mama said.

Papa was still calm and looked at his children and pointed into the distance. Then pointed at the cooking book on the table.

“That's it! Your voice may be sore but pea soup is the cure!” Mamma said with a smile.

The twins looked very confused but the Charlie asked

“Pea soup are you sure?”

Mama quickly checked the cupboards for the peas, she was sure that they were in there somewhere.

She searched high and low but she could not find them anywhere. Suddenly Charlie thought of a brilliant idea.

“I know! I’ll go get some peas”

As she was the bravest out of the two she thought she would go on her own, she will finally be a hero.

However Mamma had other ideas.

Momma said “yes, yes I will get the rest of the ingredients for the soup. Now Samuel and Charlie you must BOTH go get the peas, it will take the two of you and your skills to work together to get them from the giant's farm”

“Remember to stay by the stream, then come straight back! "

Papa nodded and pointed again.

Papa knew it was the only way to keep the dangers away from the forest, he needed his mighty roar.

Both Charlie and Samuel looked at each other. Charlie without hesitation said "let's go!" she would be the one to save the day.

Samuel was nervous. He took a deep breath and replied “okay” looking down he thought how could I help? I’m not brave like Charlie, she was ready for this task.

Sticking by the clear stream like their Momma had told them, the pair had lots to think about while on this adventure.

Charlie thought to herself that she was going to the one to save her Papa and his poor voice.

Samuel was thinking that he had never been this far away from home, he was worried as this was not a normal day for him but one thing has not changed his snoot was still in a book as they were walking.

“Amazing!," Samuel muttered under his breath as he read up on the recipe for pea soup.

Charlie looked over at her brother and felt annoyed that he brought a book of all things on an adventure "Can you go any slower?" she said sarcastically Samuel quickly replied "unlike you can multitask anyways I have lot of time, the ground has not changed yet"

Charlie in a huff said "The ground? Trust you to think about dirt so much" she snapped back,

"No silly. The ground is still soft because the moss starts and ends in the old forest. Did you not know that?”

Charlie had never thought about that before, she does not pay much attention to her surroundings unlike Samuel who knows to make sure he takes every little detail in.

Charlie huffed again and continued walking forward.

Then just as the two walked over the small green hill they saw the giant’s farm.

Charlie spotted it first and shouted out to her brother "Look there's the farm! Race you!"

"Hold on, Charlie this could be dangerous who knows what creatures we will find"

said Samuel in a worried tone.

Charlie ran as fast as her little legs could carry her across the field away from the stream.

Samuel shouted as loud as he could "wait! wait!" he squeaked but his sister could not hear him as she was too far away from him.

Just before he could run after Charlie, Samuel saw a giant. Oh no, he thought to himself, I have to do something!

He started to run faster than he ever had before

to catch up with his sister.

Across the field there grows a giant's garden. Everything was ginormous from the house to trees and there at the top of the garden grew the peas. Charlie was awe of the place; she has gotten to be the first bumblesnout in many years to set foot on the farm.

All of a sudden the ground started shaking, the giant was on the move.

The leaves were trembling from top to bottom.

In a matter of fact everything in the garden was shuddering apart from Charlie.

She was as calm as ever, and as quick as a snap she started climbing the pole to get to the peas.

At this very moment Samuel had caught up to his sister with the giant slowly approaching.

“Faster, faster” Samuel cried out.

All he could do was watch as his sister was in danger.

Then Momma’s words circled his mind.

“It will take to two of you and your skills, work together”

And then an idea!

Samuel said "we must roar together! Me and you Charlie, at the same time!"

"Ready?"

3...

The two plucked up all their strength and courage to roar like they never had before.

RRRO...

RROOA,

...

RRROOAAARR!

She was so proud of her brother for that idea and even though she had never roared that loudly or as bravely by herself, however together they could roar like never before.

The giant heard the roar and fell on the ground in a huge,

THUD!

And

Crash!

The ground shook and the vegetables in the garden went flying, including the pea pods with charlie was on.

Samuel ducked for cover, and looked on to see what was happening and to see where his sister would land.

Woosh!

Woosh!

And then,

plop...

She landed in the stream and Samuel ran over to her to see if she was okay.

Thankfully she was fine and using the pod as a float.

Samuel jumped on, they both looked at each other, smiled then shared a hug.

“Let's go!” they both said together.

The pea pod was bobbing along in the stream, time dragged on by. As the sun was starting the set Chalie thought we won't make it in time before nightfall.

Samuel had an idea! He looked over at Charlie and said “we can use our tails as propellers!”.

They made it home in great time, working together to make it back down the stream. Before they dragged the pea pod out of the stream on the border of the old forest, Charlie turned to her brother and put her hand on his shoulder,

“That was amazing! I always believed you had it in you somewhere!”

Her brother looked over to their home in the distance just past the trees and replied.

“What about a roar for the road eh, to let Momma and Papa know we are back”

Charlie smiled and nodded

“Ready?”

“ROARRRR”

The mighty Roar echoed through the trees in the old forest; it even travelled past the hills, over the stream and even into the giant’s garden.

Momma's ears perked up.

“It’s them!” she said in joy to Papa, as they looked over to the opening of the trees with the evening sun beaming down on them.

The heros had returned with the peas in hand!

“Who wants soup?” Charlie asked, Mamma ran to them with open arms “soup, soup, soup, all round” she replied “It sounds like you two found your voices by working together" Momma remarked.

They add all the ingredients into her special pea soup.

First Momma added the vegetables,

2 baby carrots sliced, new 2 tiny potato freshly peeled and disted,

Half spring onions, 1 mint leaves and finally the most important thing, the peas the twins had worked so hard to get! The peas were boiled for 5 minutes then mushed. After they were added to the rest of the vegetables and

Momma covered all of this in water and let it boil on the hot hot stove. All night she worked to make sure everything was just right.

The next morning the soup was perfect and ready for the whole family to share.

Papa's voice was better in no time and all the forest was safe once again, thanks to the bravery of two very different bumblesnoots. Everything was back to normal. Well not everything as the twins have a new found respect for each other's skills. And a new love for roaring together.

“Well done” Papa said

“I have never been so thankful for my family and for everything we have together”.

Always remember, as small as a pea as big as a tree,

Smart as a hare or strong as a bear,

Your voice will be heard!

Be true to who you are and don't let anything stop you from doing what you love.

The end.
