CHAPT 1
"Ariel Monroe," says the voice over the speaker. She stands, her heart racing because the rush of adrenaline after the anxious moment was so sudden. She was elated she had managed to finish the hellish ride which were studies. "Come to the stage and receive your certificate." She scanned the crowd after she got onto the podium. Her mother was terribly ill and ultimately couldn't make it to this day , not like she attended any of these events anyway throughout her life , Ariel thought. But she understood deep down, as she was trying to make ends meet for the two of them and so she pardoned her for missing the graduation ceremony. Rather, as she scanned the crowd, she was looking at her friends and companions who had made it to this day with her. She had always been soft spoken and so gave a small speech.
The fall wind blew through her crimson locks and against her freckled face. The air was chilly as she finished her speech and the first person to applaud her was Louisiana Blakeley, her best friend. Louise was a jumpy dark-haired character whose parents provided her with more than she needed and when she and Ariel first met, Ariel didn't imagine they would ever be as close as they were then, her being from a completely different world from her, like the rest of their classmates who were of the upper echelon...
Louise cheered her bestie on as she walked down the stage after which she was thereafter called upon and she shashayed for her certificate with an air of confidence she was known for, gave a really short speech about how she was finally leaving that hellhole and every creature in it apart from her precious friends ofcourse, threw her middle fingers in the air and at the faces of her least favourite former lecturers with a " Fuck you and you and especially YOU! " Leaving them dumbfounded, some of their mouths agape in disbelief at what had just happened and the former students cheering and whistling in amusement...
"Nope change. Too plain." Says Louise with distaste. Ariel tries to pout at her best friend giving her a pleading look with her baby blue eyes that contrast with her red hair. "But I really like it" she swivels in the mint green dress. Louise sighs. "I know you do babes, but that dress doesn't quite give the impression I'd want you to give at tonight's party." Ariel drops her shoulders in defeat. "Okay then, what impression do you want me to give?" She asks her very picky friend who's been making her try on outfits for the past hour for the grad party at her boyfriend's house. Louise sits upright almost immediately and checks her closet that's on her side of the room then pulls out a really short leather skirt and a white open-chested crop top and turns to Ariel. "Perfect. This will bring your curves out nicely. Sexy and mature. I like this outfit. Now please for fuck's sake put it on!" She says. Ariel rolls her eyes and smiles "Fine."
She re-enters the room from the closet looking down at herself. The leather skirt hugging her body, emphasizing her hips and waist, stopping at her knees and the croptop exposing her slightly spotted chest with freckles and a slight pinkish hue. Louise stares at her friend and nods in approval. "Yes, that's the one. So, do you like it?"
Ariel stares at her reflection in the mirror, twisting and turning. "Well it is really cute but ..." Louise stares at her " But?" Ariel turns. "But, its not really my style and its really uncomfortable, I feel like it's too tight, like I'm raping the clothes!" she cries. "Oh come on," Louise says "You're overreacting. You look great. I have a good feeling about tonight."
"Babe !" Louise hugs her boyfriend, a tall coffee colured man, dressed in modern-day arabian clothes. The handsome man smiles and his smile makes him look like he was an arabian prince ruling over the sandy golden lands in his past life. He hugs Louisiana. "Yes babe?" He kisses her briefly and looks into her eyes lovingly, making her blush. "How is my golden tulip?" He asks her. Louise pouts "Not fine, I'll tell you all about it. So...." and they steer away into the crowd of party goers, leaving Ariel standing alone. Ariel sighs and thinks "Great. Bring ne to a party and leave me alone. Typical Louise." walks to the counter at the bar which of course, a prestigious family like Khaleed Alhamoud's, aka Louisiana's boyfriend, would have in their house. As Ariel sat at the bar counter, she thought about how her best friend and Khaleed had dated for the whole time they were at college and now finished the last year together, as the most ideal couple on campus, reminding her how her own love life had collapsed only 3 months ago. Then she shook the thought out of her head and downed the glass of gin and tonic she had ordered to get the thoughts of her ex out of her head. And as she took the shot, as they say 'speak of the devil' Michael Reed appears behind her, in arms with Katrinah Petrovah Dione, his new girlfriend, in all her glamour.
Ariel rolls her eyes sensing drama and gets up to leave but Michael stops her with, " Ari baby, why the rush? " she glares at him." You have no right to call me that." Michael smirks.
"Call you what? Baby"
"Ari."
"Well too bad coz I already did"
He gives her a toothy grin and continues "well no need to be prickly, Just wanted to say hi to my ex. You know, to keep on good terms. Is that so wrong?"
Ariel sighs already exhausted by their conversation let alone presence. "Just leave me alone, Michael." Katrinah, already jealous at the prospect of Michael trying to get on Ariel's good side decides to speak "You habe no right to speak to my boyfriend like that! Okay , Ari!?" She says in a slight Russian accent, saying the last word in a mocking tone. Ariel ignores it and shrugs. "Sure okay. Can I go now?" Katrinah being the the diva she is, got irritated by this and said " Mickey, Here's boring. Let's go somewhere less-" she stares Ariel down. "-boring." And drags him away with her shashaying, leaving Ariel relieved.
"How the fuck did I even end up dating him?" Ariel says to herself. Then laughs realizing how much Louise's cussing is rubbing off on her. She then decides to move to a quieter setting in the mansion and moves up the stairs toward closed double-doors.
