Unplanned Vacation

Tani’s pov

“Tani Rathore, hurry up!!! The girls would be here any second.” yelled Sam, my best friend.

“I’m coming. Would you mind shutting up for just a second?!!”

“Not unless you move your ass out of that room” she said. And true to her words, she continued her ranting until I stepped out of the room.

I have a crazy best friend. Her full name is Samantha but she prefers to be called ‘Sam or Sammy’. ‘It makes me feel cool and sexy’, her words not mine. Sam and I are like two peas in a pod. And we are partners in crime.

Right now,we are waiting for our other two friends, Sophie and Bella. I met them when I was in Canada studying for business. They were my roommates. When Sam and the other two girls met, they instantly clicked. We have been best friends ever since.

Anyway, back to the present. Right now, Sam and I are in Italy, on a vacation. And we are waiting for the other girls to show up. Actually, we all are going out. Clubbing, to be exact. Everyone, except me, has the experience of going there. I know it’s embarrassing. But what can one do when you are too lazy to even move around. So, that means I am the only adult in the group who doesn’t know the meaning of fun.

Oh, and I almost forgot that today is a very special day for me or at least it was supposed to. Actually it is my marriage anniversary or was. Another reason why I am going out, to forget everything.

I got divorced 3 months ago. And because of this, I was depressed. I mean any normal person would be sad about their divorce and I wasn’t over it. Because of which I had confined myself for at least a few weeks.

Seeing this, my friends told me to take a break from my breakup or in their words ‘to stop wallowing over that bastard and move on’. I’m so happy to have friends like them. I laugh thinking about the day when they basically ‘kidnapped’ me for this trip.

FLASHBACK

I had just shifted back to my apartment which I stayed in before my marriage. And seeing everything, my memories reeled before my eyes like a movie.

Laying on my bed, I remembered the day when me and my husband, Neil, got divorced, which brought new tears and then it turned into an outburst. In all this, somehow I fell asleep.

I woke up to sudden banging on my front door. I turned to take a look at my clock and it was freaking 1 am. Having so many scenarios in my mind, I got up to open the door.

“Oye, Tani, open the door, it’s me and not a thief or a murderer if that’s what you’re thinking.”

Hearing Sam’s voice, relief washed over me. I laughed at her words because that’s exactly what I was thinking. She can really read my mind.

After I unlocked the door, Sam barged in the apartment and headed straight for my room. I ran after her confused and saw her pulling out my suitcase. I hadn’t unpacked because of certain things, you know what.

“Good, you didn’t unpack yet. This will make things a lot easier now.”

“What are you doing and why are you going through my things, girl?”

“We’re going on vacation. Just you and I. And also the girls.” said Sam.

Say What? To say I was confused would be an understatement. I was stunned at my best friend’s words. I am going on a vacation and I didn’t know about it.

“I don’t know about any vacation. I don’t remember you mentioning anything about it and also why am I going?”

“Babe, me and the other girls decided that it was finally time for you to take a break from your break up, enjoy and also to help move on. So you, basically, don’t have any option but to go with us.”

“But I’m not in the mood to go on any trip right now.”

“Why? So that you could hole up in your room and cry your eyes out while your ex-husband enjoys and plays with other girls every single night”

I don’t know about Neil but I did love him. I still do. A lot. And hearing this, I could hear my heart shattering into pieces again.

Sam saw this and comforted me, “Tani, please stop crying. Listen to me and listen well. Neil is just not worth your tears and stop thinking about that bastard. He was an asshole to begin with. He doesn’t deserve you. I really hope that bastard rots in hell for making you cry. You are so good and kind and talented and here you are wasting all of that on a jerk. Do you still remember that promise we made about not crying over boys. And you’re doing exactly that.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Don’t apologize for something you didn’t do, sweetheart. It’s his loss for losing a gem like you. Forget about that asshole and start a new chapter of your life. Go back to being the Tani who was positive and happy about everything no matter the situation and not this messed up one. Learn new things, meet new people and enjoy every single moment. And it’s not like he is the only fish out there. I am sure you will be able to meet someone who will love you for who you are. But, right now what you need to do is hook up with some handsome guy.”

I laughed hearing Sam. Only she knew how to make me smile in situations like this.

“Thank you, Sam, for everything.”

“No problem, babes. Come on, we don’t have time to waste. We’re leaving in an hour. So freshen up and wear something comfy because it’s gonna be a long flight.”

“But I haven’t said yes.”

“Do you think your opinion matters right now?”

Seeing the look on her, I just shook my head because I knew better not to mess with her.

“Good. Now come on, get ready.”

I got up and made my way straight to the bathroom. Before I went in, I asked Sam,

“Where exactly are we going?”

To which, she smirked and said, “Italy”.

FLASHBACK ENDS

And now here I am sitting in the room of the best hotel in Italy, De Luca Palace. When we first came in, we were totally blown by the interior. And guess what. My friends had booked a balcony view room from which we could see the whole city of Florence. And boy, was I glad to hear that.

I woke up from my thoughts when Sam started banging on my door. “Bitch, the girls are here. What is taking you so long?”

Shit, I almost forgot about the plan. Not wanting to anger Sam anymore, I stepped out of the room, checking my makeup and hair one last time. I saw the girls standing in the hallway, waiting for me.

“Come on, girl, hurry up. We don’t wanna be late.” Sophia said.

“I’m here.” Sam yelled.

“So let’s get this show on the road.”

Saying this, we made our way to the car that would take us to our destination. To ’Chiaro di Luna’.
