Chapter 1

“They call it Death Mountain!” Rebecca handed me a magazine and smiled. Her long, wavy ginger hair lay carelessly over her shoulder. I took it from her cold hand and looked at the front cover. It showed a drawing of a large mountain with a bright red background and aggressive yellow stripes behind it.

“Why do they call it that?” I asked as I took a slurp of coffee and placed the cup on the table gingerly. “I don’t know… maybe because it’s big?” Rebecca held her cup up to her mouth but she didn’t take a sip. “That’s the reason I hope anyways…” I heard her mutter and she drank from it. That sent chills down my spine.

I laid the magazine on the table and flicked through the pages with my freshly crème painted nails.

When I reached the back of the magazine it said in big bold writing, only £3000 to go on holiday here! Are you up for it?

“What do you say we find out?” I looked up to see that Rebecca was focused on my face. “Find out what?”

I rolled my eyes. “Why they call it Death Mountain, stupid!”

“Oh… I don’t know…” she flinched. “c’mon Becky! It’ll be great!” I grabbed her hand. It was soft and delicate. She had recently painted her nails a nice dark red colour so it wasn’t pealing off yet. I felt the lines on her palm. “Fine…” she exhaled. “Great! Woohoo!” I dropped her hand and leapt into the air eagerly, until I realised that everyone else in the coffee shop was staring at me, so I sat back down.

“Well… when do you want to go?” I asked, feeling embarrassed. “How about Friday?” She answered, her eyes sparkled with amusement as she saw my embarrassment.

“Ok, let me just set it as a reminder on my phone.” I pulled it out of my back pocket where it had been sitting the whole time and opened my calendar. Death Mountain hiking trip!!! I wrote quickly. I placed my phone back in my back pocket and continued drinking my coffee, which had gone cold.

this is just chapter 1 of many, I will update it and add more chapters soon, just bare with me as I have to find the time.
