💸Sweetheart💸
I look at the clock for the hundredth time today. I get off of work at 4:00, five more minutes to go. I have an early start to my day, like clockwork, coming in at 6 am. My main focus is my job at the auto shop, I just work at the convenience store for extra money. Winter break started two weeks ago for school so now I'm loading up on work when I can. Right now, Im eager for these four minutes to pass.
It's not that I don't love my job, because I absolutely do. I'm just beyond stoked for tonight. My sisters and parents are coming to my apartment, as well as my best friend's parents and siblings since we share a place. This is the first night we're having both families over to our place at the same time. Yeah, they were both over helping us move in, but all of us haven't had dinner together yet. And considering we grew up together, I'm so excited.
Her parents are second parents to me. When I wasn't at my house, I was always over there. Her younger brother is amazing since I'm the youngest in my family. Even when she would get mad at him, he'd come to me cause I was his other bigger sister. I have five older sisters, so Maxy and her brothers are my time away from so many females.
All of my sisters are girly and love everything remotely girly. Makeup, clothes, shoes, purses. BOYS. Not me. I do like boys, but they're all mean and gross. So I've stayed away my whole life. That's one of the only things me and Maxy don't agree on. She's always had boys around her, and she accepted them, not me. I keep away from most people. Other than that, the two of us have the same opinions on everything else. We like doing exciting, scary things. Skateboarding and riding bikes and dirt bikes. We also have been working on cars our entire lives.
She has four older brothers, and a younger brother and sister. Her oldest brother always had us with him out in the garage. Everything we learned is from him and his dad. Now the both of us are going to school fo mechanics and working in auto shops. She sadly works at a different one though, we tried getting in the same one, but didn't. We still have all of our classes together and live together though, so we see each other every day no matter what.
We also have an exact same style. We're constantly borrowing each others clothes, but some of my clothes she REFUSES to wear. She despises dresses and skirts, won't go anywhere near them. I like them though, as long as they're on the darker side. I'll wear any color as long as it's not bright, I don't like standing out. She wears more grays and blacks, but we steal each others clothes all the time. The only thing we don't use is each others underwear. That would just be weird.
My phone dings and I look down at it. It's Maxy, I assume she's telling me she's outside to pick me up so I don't look at it. I check out one more customer when I hear Luke come through the door. Luke is my work bestie. He helps me get on the bosses good side. The boss is a meanie, and he doesn't like giving me real work. So Luke let's me work on some cars when he's not here. And sadly he's here today. He doesn't think I can work on cars because I'm a 'girl'. He's said it multiple times to my face, in front of the other male workers, and in front of customers.
"Why would I give a job to work on cars knowing you can't do it? We don't need to be put behind or mess up a car just because a little girl wants to work on it. It's not something you can do for fun whenever you feel like it sweetheart."
Luke quickly comes behind the counter after the customer leaves and turns to me.
"You might wanna head out of here Adina. It's 4:02, you're good. I don't want Mr. Mońee to come bother you or tell you to stay late." I give him a confused look, then a worried one.
"Do you actually think he'll do that again?" My face turns to a frown as I start walking to the locker room.
"Yes he absolutely would, now go before he realizes what time it is" I punch my card and grab my things out of my locker.
"Thanks Luke, I owe you."
"You don't owe me anything Adina." He gives me a big smile as he walks me outside. I look around for Maxy, but she's nowhere to be seen. I look at the text on my phone and read what she said.
'Hey Adi, my brothers got here early so I can't come pick you up. I'm sorry. Let me know when you're leaving so I know you don't get kidnapped or anything🙃'
I groan and look down at the ground. I was thinking about asking Luke to give me a ride, but I look and see him pulling out. I yet again groan,
"Ugh come on!"
"Need something?" I turn around to Mr. Mońee with an annoying grin on his face.
"No thank you sir. My friend just told me she can't pick me up. I have to walk." He doesn't even look up from his phone as he walks to his car.
"That sucks. Good luck." I roll my eyes and start walking towards my apartment. I open my texts and send a message to Maxy saying I'm on my way. she sends back a thumbs up and I turn on my music. I put on some 'Linkin Park'.
