Chapter 1
I wake up in a strange sleep a burrow it seems. I reach out one hand to touch some roots dangling above me and see a black, scaled body with wings ending in claws.
As I turn upright to crawl out of this space, I feel my legs strain as I drop my wings and ram my claws into the ground. Brushing the damp earth below me and a tail trailing behind me my senses are sharp. I can smell the green grass and moss and the musty odor of other woodland creatures nearby.
I close my eyes and listen intently to the sounds of the woodland all around me. I tilt my head upward to the sky and open my eyes to see nothing but birds and clouds.
It was a beautiful day with this sun out as clouds were scattered along the sky as I can hear birds chirping and chattering from a mile away. I can see the ancient trees swaying with the wind.
I stretch my limbs and feel the wind flow underneath my wings. Moved by a sudden primal urge, my wings push down against the forest floor and brush the wind pushing me up into the sky with great whoosh
I'm soaring above the clouds as the winds rushed past me. I can hear every beat of my wings as they push me higher and faster. My lungs strain for air as I fly. I dive back down through the clouds and above the treetops.
I see great birds flying in the sky. I can assume they look like me in the distance. Other flocks are together with small wings beating to a blur as they play and dart all around me before they scurry away.
I felt a sharp pain in my right wing. I lowered my head beneath me to see a arrow stuck to my wing. I start to spiral out of control as I am hit with another. My body is out of control as I'm changing in between human and dragon, uncontrollably.
My eyes close as I collapse on the ground. The last thing I feel are my wings closing behind me. I hear the dull thump of my head hitting the forest floor. My body starts to shut down on the hard Earth beneath me.
I'm awake, but not fully as I can hear voices that are faint. I listen into their conversation as I slowly open my eyes. I looked to what seems to be two elves and a wizard, standing in front of me.
They all turn and look at me. I look at each of them one by one. Finally landing on the one of the Elves that was standing in the middle of the group.
"Lord Elrond of Rivendell," he said while looking carefully looking at me, like I had something to hide.
I nodded my head as the wizard spoke, "Gandalf, Gandalf the grey."
"And I'm Legolas, Prince of Mirkwood."
"And what's your name?" Elrond asked as he took a step toward the bed.
"Amarathae, my lord," I said, "but Mellons call me Amara."
"I'll take leave then and let you rest," Elrond says to me as he leaves to the door.
I nodded my head slightly as I watched Elrond leave, leaving me with Legolas and Gandalf.
"Gandalf, im baur na ped- na-dh," Legolas says in elvish as he leaves our gaze and looks up at Gandalf.
I watched as they both headed outside. I fell back into a sleep state, soon going into my nightmare that keeps recurring in my dreams.
I'm out playing in the tall grass looking up toward my father flying in the sky and burning the city. I follow his movements through the sky as I'm weaving through the grass. Being just like him. I can sense his anger as he flies above the city of dale.
Finally I see him land and talk to the "Bowman" and his son, telling them everyone will burn.
The next thing I know is that I see my Father taking off again and being hit with a black arrow. I watch as dad's life is sucked out of him as he falls into the ocean. That anger's my dragon and I start to fly as mother wraps herself around me from taking off.
I wake up, tearing as Gandalf and Legolas walk in again. I look up at Gandalf as I get up from the bed. I walk past them and take a hold of the handle as I'm pulled back, "Amarathae, where are you going?"
I looked at Legolas as he still had a hold of my wrist, "Let me go," I snapped, "I don't have time for this."
"Time for what?" Gandalf said.
I forced Legolas's grasp from my wrist and headed out. Before I had reached the gate Legolas had stepped in front of me, "Get out of my way, Legolas," I said as I could feel anger boiling up.
"I can't do that."
"Get. out. of. my way."
"No," he said, "let me help you."
"Help me!" I snapped "I don't need your help!"
"Look, I know why you're angry."
I stood there looking at him, deeply waiting for him to respond, "It's because I shot you down, Isn't it?"
"So, you're the one responsible for my lost time?"
I watched as he lowered his head down, "Yes," Legolas said "let me make it to you."
I took a step back deep in thought, "One day. That's all you get."
"Thank you, Amarathae," Legolas says
I felt Legolas hand grasping my wrist and pulling me out into the woodland, "Where are we going?" I asked as I looked behind me to see Rivendell shrink in size.
"I'm taking you to meet my Father."
"Oh, is he more like you?" I asked as he releases his grasp and abruptly stops in his shoes, "I'm sorry if I said som-"
"No, he's more like you, actually."
"Ouch."
"Now we're even."
I was along ways Legolas, as he was further up than I was. There was trees and forest on both of our sides. I looked up at Legolas as thats when I saw it. The Gate of Mirkwood. I walked up to Legolas, "I won't tell my father," Legolas says, stopping in his tracks. He turned around facing me.
"About?"
He switched his gaze down to my scaled arm, "Here take this."
Legolas handed me something to cover my arm with, "Thanks."
I can see a pathway leading up to the gate as we approach. Legolas leads me over the path as I look down to see a flowing river beneath us. Finally we reached the gate with two guards guarding the gate, "Legolas! How was your hunt?"
"I didn't catch anything today," Legolas says "I hope you two don't mind, I brought a guest."
I walk forward to be greeted, "Nice na govannon- cin." (nice to meet you)
"Elros and Lethuim."
"Amarathae," I responded, "Though, I won't be staying long."
They turned and looked at Legolas as they opened the gate. I hurried and walked through, making Legolas follow me inside. I had finally reached inside as I spun around taking a look.
I stopped as my eyes landed on Legolas standing beside me. I looked up to what it seems his Ada had walking down from his throne, "Legolas! welcome back," he said "and not alone, I see."
"Father, I would like to introduce you to Amarathae," Legolas says as his Father moves his gaze to meet mine.
"Nice to meet you, Amarathae," he says "King Thranduil."
I bow as I feel King Thranduil's touch to my arm, "Amarathae, no need to bow in my presence."
I quickly stand up as my covering slides off revealing my scaled arm to King Thranduil. I turned around not wanting to make eye contact and hiding my arm from him.
Wow so much letting him find out, I thought as Legolas's promise rang through my head a million times.
Legolas had jumped in, "Amarathae! You must be tired."
"Not really," I said as I turned around seeing Legolas in my eyesight.
"Oh come on, you haven't had enough sleep on our way here." Legolas says as I could see King Thranduil look at me past his sons shoulder.
I looked into his eyes and lost my ability to move, "I'm really not that tired," I said as I finally moved from our gaze as Legolas forcibly grabs my arms and takes me away, "Where are you taking me now?"
"To your chamber."
I sighed as I was being pulled to my chambers that I did not want. There was a reason why I don't sleep. That recurring Nightmare. I don't want to go through that pain of seeing my Father die, and die over again the millionth time.
Finally we reached the doors as Legolas opened them, revealing a decent sized bed and an open balcony and a wall filled with books. With a mahogany desk. I smiled at all the books that were there.
I walked over and placed my fingers on the spines and ran to fingers alongside them as I ended at the balcony. I opened the doors and got a wave of fresh air and the moonlight coming down. I then turned and headed to the bed and plopped down as Legolas spoke, "I'll have some guards bring you clothes for you to change into."
I could feel the sheets beneath me. I needed sleep, but I couldn't. Just then I felt my eyes starting to close on me as I tried to force them to stay open.
Finally, I gave up and caved and went into a deep sleep.
