Chapter 1
“ALLI! MAIL… FOR YOU?!” Geez, does she have to wake me up so early. “Mom, it’s only 5! Let me sleep.” I hear her feet scuffling up the wood stairs. She huffs out a breath when she reaches the top, and then swings my door wide open. “Allison Jane! Please tell me you didn’t just wake up. I assumed you were just down for a nap. But…” she huffs, and her face looks concerned. I only respond with a grunting, “Huh?” She smacks her finger to her temple as if I am the sole cause for her headache. “It’s 5,” … “PM!” Oh. Okay, this makes more sense now. Her eyes wander to me now, fully taking me in. I can see it when her mind clicks, she knows where I was last night. “At least tell me you had a reason for going to Cora’s.” I sigh, “Mom her and Jason broke up and she was having a hard time. She called and asked me to be with her.” She rolls her eyes and plops the envelope on my bed. I try to stammer out a thank you, but she’s gone before I can. I take the letter in my hand and turn it over.
