โYouโre telling me Iโm being replaced by a ginger?โ
Y/N stared up at the taller woman and young man, waiting for a response.
โSignora. Who the hell is this, and why is he taking my spot as a Harbinger?โ
Signora chuckled and covered her mouth with her hand. She placed a hand onto the gingers head, โFrom what I know, itโs because heโs better than you are. What else would be the reasoning?โ
Sweat dropped from the gingers forehead and he tried to not even breathe too hard. He didnโt know he was taking someoneโs spot when told about the position. Trying his hardest to not meet the angry womanโs gaze, he looked at the ground.
โBetter? What does he have that I donโt?โ Y/N snapped.
โHeโs a precious dual wielder. His bow turns into a close combat weapon. Tell me dear,โ Signora stepped closer to Y/N and traced her face with her finger, โCan you do that?โ
The girl froze.
Signora gripped her chin and pulled Y/N closer to her face, โI. didnโt. Think. So.โ She said pausing between each word.
Y/N slapped her hand away from her face, โWhoโs issuing the order.โ It sounded more like a demand than a question.
โOur dear archon herself. So if you have a complaint, speak to her. Donโt kill the messenger now.โ She smirked.
Tsaritsa. Y/N knew all too well that she couldnโt defy nor complain with the archon.
โQuiet, are we? Heโs a good boy. Your age. Play nice with him and you never know.โ She waved her hand. โIsnโt that right, Childe?โ
The ginger headed boy looked up slowly, still not meeting Y/Nโs eyes. He opened his mouth to speak but nothing came out.
โScared stiff.โ She sighed and turned around, her dress catching wind. โI do hope you come visit. Her majesty loves you, you know.โ
โIf she loves me so damn much whyโd she replace me?โ
Signora glanced back, โA conversation for someone else I would assume.โ She snapped her fingers, โCome Childe.โ
The boy carefully looked up into Y/Nโs eyes. All he could do was mutter a quick โIโm sorryโ before he turned and followed Signora into the darkness. Leaving Y/N alone.
Y/N held in the urge to run back to them. But she would have nothing to say. She would never defy her Archon. She could never. What she says is final. If she wanted to get anything done now, she would do it herself.
So thatโs exactly what she did for the next three years.
21 years old. Making deals with the shadows. She would work for nobody, but make others work for her.
โSo theyโre transporting illegal firearms to Liyue?โ Y/N asked the group of treasure hoarders.
โThatโs what it seems like. Theyโre disguising the cargo as regular fruit shipments. From our calculations, itโll arrive at noon.โ One of them responded.
โSink the ship then.โ
Their faces turned to the women, โYou do realize if we sink it, everything and everyone goes with itโ
โAlright? Is it a problem? Can you do it or not?โ She asked.
They exchanged glances to one another and nodded.
โGood. Itโs docking near an Island nearby. Sink it there.โ
โGot it. But if I may ask, why donโt we just stop them at the docks?โ Asked a man.
โThese people wonโt just take a little slap on the wrist. So. Sink it.โ
She stood up and stretched her arms out over her head. โNow then. Iโll be off, Iโll be back after noon. If the ship hasnโt sunk by then, Iโll tie you to a brick and throw you off the pier.โ
If only Tsaritsa could see her now. However, with the Rite of Descension approaching, she knew it wouldnโt be long before she encountered one of her old comrades.
News came quickly that afternoon. The ship had been sunk, and the men she ordered to sink it were taken in for questioning by the Millelith. She chuckled walking down the streets of Liyue knowing she would need new people to order around.
After being kicked from the Harbingers, she would receive messages from the Tsaritsaโs messengers. They would always be along the lines of โYou never come visit.โ Or โSpending too much time in Liyue alone isnโt good for youโ These visits would end in Y/N telling the messengers to get lost or to take a long tumble off a cliff.
She was more independent than she was before, getting booted from her Harbinger spot was probably the best thing to happen to her.
โExcuse me. Y/N?โ A voice called from behind her. She stopped walking but didnโt turn around. This was not a familiar voice to her ear. However, they knew who she was.
โIf youโre another one of her Majestyโs messengers, you can politely turn around now.โ She continued walking down the street until she heard the footsteps pick up again. She snapped her head around quickly, grabbing one of her electro arrows for her bow and held it to the personโs neck.
To her surprise it was the same young man who took her spot 3 years ago. Childe. He had his hands up in the air to show he wasnโt armed. โWhat do you want.โ
Childe sighed putting his hands down, โI heard you were still around here. Is it bad to want to come see how you were doing?โ
Putting down the arrows she scoffed, โSee how Iโm doing? Please, save your breath.โ She continued walking until she felt his hand on her shoulder.
โI lied, I actually came here to apologize. I was too terrified to give you one 3 years ago. I was unaware I would be taking your spotโโ
She interrupted, โLike I said. Save your breath. I really donโt need an apology. If she thinks youโre better than I am, so be it.โ
Gazing into her eyes he frowned slightly, โI donโt think youโre better than me. Honestly.โ
She stared back at him, โOh donโt worry, I fully believe you. With our parting I want to ask you something.โ
โWhat would that be?โ
โAre you guys planning to make some sort of scene during The Rite Of Descension?โ She asked curiously.
Childe hesitated on his answer. Technically he wasnโt supposed to be letting anyone know the plans they had going on. But he made an exception, โWe are. Things have already been set down.โ
She hummed, โThe gnosis I would assume?โ Childe nodded his head. โVery well. This is a perfect time to leave Liyue.โ
Childeโs eyes widened, โLeave? Are you going back to Snezhnaya?โ
Shaking her head she laughed, โYou wonโt catch me back there any time soon. Iโll go to the city of freedom itself. Plenty of fools over there.โ She turned on her heel and walked off waving. โMaybe weโll meet again.โ She turned to face him once more, โChilde.โ
Childe watched the woman walk away from him. His gut was turning inside out. He came to apologize, and felt like he only made it worse. Praying that Y/N wouldnโt tell anyone about the Harbingerโs plans he sighed, rubbing his head.
Thatโs how Y/N ended up in Mondstadt. Sick of being watched by Fatui. Her face was known amongst them all, so there would be no permanent getaway. However, leaving for Mondstadt would just be a step towards the future. She wouldnโt even bid farewell to her dear Archon. Maybe Barbatos wouldnโt mind an extra citizen in their city.
What was the name he went by now? Venti? She thought to herself. A smirk found its way to her face. That poor fool Rex Lapis would only serve as the next pawn for the Tsaritsa. Some bitter contract to give up his gnosis perhaps.
And thatโs how it started.
