Chapter 1
" Jane you had me worried when I received the phone call from the hospital saying you were hurt and they didn't tell me how bad. They just said I needed to come there. Christina drove me because I was a basket case. I called your mother and brother to meet me there. They asked me how bad you were. I didn't know. I would have thought at least Frankie would have known."
" Maura I am so sorry especially my mother over reacted. " " Jane no they didn't. You their family. I am glad your mother drove us home. Christina dropped off your medication. She was just as worried. I have taken time off of work. I will be off until you return." "Maura the ER doctor only stated today. You can return to work tomorrow. " "Whose the doctor here? Your mom is making us dinner at her place. She wants you to rest."
I couldn't argue with Maura. She is a doctor. A very stubborn one. I love her to pieces but at times she goes overboard as now. I take my pain medicine with some water. I fall asleep.
Jane can be so hard-headed. I love my best friend. During the shower, I cried like a baby thinking I could have lost my best friend today. I don't think I could function without her. I finished up my shower and got dressed. I forgo the makeup. I have been putting in a lot of hours because of my supervising so many
coroners and my duties at my site. I am ready for some time off to get rejuvenated. I log into my laptop and email all my staff to inform them I am off of work until further notice. I leave Dr. Pike in charge. He won't be supervising the other sites. I am reluctant to have him supervise my unit as it is. He's not a people person. I log out. I make a call to Captain Shawn Cavanagh informing him about Jane and us being off from work. He knew about the accident and Jane but didn't know the severity of it. He tells me to tell her to take as much time as she needs. He thanks me for looking after her. I end the conversation. Angela starts bringing the cooked food over for us two. She asks how she is. I tell her she is sleeping. She tells me to call her if either of us needs anything. She is leaving to eat dinner with her boys and Laura, Frankie's wife.
I keep the dinner warm while Jane is sleeping. I am laying in her bed next to hee waiting for her to to wake up. She wakes up two hours later. It's a little after seven.
" Hey how you feeling?" " Sore and a little looping but the doctor said I would with the medication get prescribed me. I can't have any alcohol either. I guess my beer will
stay cold a lot longer.
I am hungry and smell my MA'S lasagna. I want to get up to eat in the kitchen. "
I help Jane up and hold her close to me. I don't want her hurting herself more than she already is. I serve us both food and pour us lemonade that I made. She is hungry but chewing slowly which isn't like her at all. We finished dinner close to the same time. I clean up and help her back to bed. I only sleep in my bra and panties. I only do that because I am in bed with Jane. Otherwise, I would be nude. We talk a little before she falls back to sleep. She knew I had been crying but did not comment. She knew why. I fell asleep about thirty minutes later.
