Chapter 1 - The Beginning

I don't remember much from my early childhood.

I remember the stars and the moon. How the stars would glisten in the endless night sky. How the moon was full and no cloud in the sky, would light up the night sky. I remember hearing the howls every night of the full moon. The werewolves worshiped the full moon and would leave my mother offerings.

I remember when my mother and I touched down in the Arctic Circle when I was still very young, she picked up a handful of snow. I remember a white wolf emerging from the snow in her hand. It made me smile. I remember thinking to myself how magical it was that she could do something like that. Bring life to something as simple as snow. I remember she took that wolf and gave it to a man that lived in a village nearby, merging their souls as one. She then gave everyone in that village their own wolf. Even the children. She said the children will start experiencing their first shift at the age of sixteen.

She said they would bring the most superior of wolves she has ever created. They would bring balance and peace to the colored wolves as they were selfish and cruel. I also remember wondering, why more wolves? She called them the Arctic Werewolves. They were much larger than the colored wolves. Their coat looked of snow, with the white and hues of blue and grey. You wouldn't be able to see them in the snow. All you would see is their eyes. On that day, was the birth of a new pack and a whole new breed of werewolf.

I don't remember much from my early childhood.

I don't remember what my mother was like. I don't even know who my father is. The only thing I have ever known is the upbringing of the Arctic Werewolves and that they needed me. The cold and silent Arctic has been my only home since my mother left me here. I helped them build their castle from the ground up.

They needed a place where they all could gather and protect each other. They needed a place to hold the rule breakers and stand them to trial. They needed a place to train their warriors. A place to practice medicine on the wounded. A place to wine and dine. A place to teach the young. A place to rest their heads.

My mother was right about one thing, the Arctics are far more superior than the colored wolves. She was wrong about one thing, and I can't place my finger on it. No matter how much I log in the Book of The Arctics, my knowledge prevents me from knowing my future.

My mother left me here, to watch her handy work. To guide them when they need guiding. Still, I feel like it is never good enough for her. She leaves me signs and notes, but she hasn't come to face me since she left. That was thirty years ago. I stopped aging when I turned twenty five. I know I am supposed to join my mother one day, but she only knows when that day is.

"Ellery," a man shouts for me. "Hold up." they say, finally catching up to me.

A smile stretches across my face, "Jeremy, just the man I was hoping to run into."

Jeremy Frost is the Prince of Arctic Werewolves. He doesn't know this, but when I was twenty five, I was there by his mother's side when he was born. His birth is what stopped my aging, the moment my mother gifted me with immortality.

The Queen of Arctic Werewolves, Luna Vivian Frost, took me in as one of her own when my mother left. The King of Arctic Werewolves, Alpha Soren Frost, didn't like the idea at first until he started treating me like one of his own. They have treated me more like family more than my mother ever has.

We stop in the hall over looking the courtyard. The exterior walls a bit on the frosty side. Jeremy grabs my left hand and places a soft, lingering, kiss on top. "Forgive my tardiness, the meeting with my father took longer than expected."

My eyes scan every inch of him. His medium length ravens black hair is tousled and his suit is disheveled. I can see the worry in his olive green eyes. Alpha Soren has been putting a lot of pressure on him as of late. "Was it about finding a mate again?" my curiosity needs to be quelled. Because Alpha Soren treats me like one of his own, he's a bit sour with the idea of Jeremy and I being a thing.

His worried expression looks at me sorrowfully. "If I don't find my mate in the next few years, they'll arrange a union with the best she wolf they can find." his tone made it very clear he's not pleased with this arrangement. He takes his hand and pushes a strand of my dirty blonde hair behind my ear. "I don't know how to love any woman that isn't you."

His words make me melt. I know the Alpha wants to keep the bloodline pure, but isn't the daughter of the Moon Goddess enough? "I love you too," the words came out soft.

Jeremy pushes me up against a stone beam. His soft lips press against mine. Hunger for more than just a kiss drives my core wild. Fireflies dancing in my stomach make my knees give as his hands wander down my sides and grasp my butt.

Voices coming down the hall make Jeremy groan and pull away. "Quick, come with me." he says while holding out his hand. Even though the whole pack knows we are together, he still doesn't like public displays of affection. The pack would rather have me as their next Luna, but fate decides itself who the next Luna is.

My small hand lands in his larger one and I squeal as he pulls me down the corridor. He leads me out of the castle into the courtyard. My hands go flying to my arms as the bitter spring air hits my pale skin.

I always for get how much colder it is outside than in the castle walls. Jeremy throws his suit jacket over my shoulders, noticing the goosebumps on my arms. A smile stretches across my face, "Thank you."

We walk through the courtyard, full of thriving evergreen, when I hear shouting coming from the direction of the trial slab. Out of curiosity, my feet carry me in that direction. That's when I see a woman chained and bare to the elements. People were grouped around her, shouting and pointing fingers.

I walk up to a guard trying to push back the crowd. I don't remember there being a trial involving the slab. I usually sit in on all trials. "What is this woman guilty of?" I asked the guard.

"She teleported into a closed jewelry shop and tried stealing all the diamonds." the words that come out of his mouth shock me. Teleported? My head suddenly starts pounding.

This is going to be a problem. "I need to question her." I bring a hand to my head, hoping to sooth the pain. Obviously, it doesn't work.

The guard takes a step back and turns towards me. "But Miss, she already stood trial and was sentenced to the slab to pay for her crimes." given the newness of this ability, I get why they wanted to push the trial without notifying me.

Jeremy walks up, "Is everything alright, Elle?"

I point a finger to the woman chained to the slab. "I need to question that woman."

He looks at me, brows furrowed in confusion. "What for?"

"She could be the start of something big." the words that comes from my mouth are cold. "Keep her chained when you bring her to a cell." I order the guard.
