Prolouge
Years ago, the governments fell apart, and the veil hiding the hidden cities of supernatural creatures came to light. Now, the human race has been set to become these humanoid people’s pets and chosen mates, as they have put it.
Upon reaching adulthood, a crucial rite of passage awaits the compatibility test. This test determines whether one is suited to coexist with the myriad of supernatural beings that have emerged in what is now known as the Golden Era.
Being chosen is a rare and meaningful event. Those fortunate few can remain in their human communities, pursuing further education to ascend to the ranks of the high supernatural beings who govern and dominate the workforce.
The testing helps find the omegas in the human race. Each species has been losing more of its Omega bloodlines, and now they are looking towards the human race to see if it has the genes of the Omega bloodline among them.
Along with many other young adults over eighteen, I will head toward the facility to have the testing done and find out where and to whom we will belong.
You see, omegas are to be protected at all costs. They are the only ones who can help the Alpha of every species continue their bloodline and help keep their people at peace with their personality and presence.
I have known there has been something wrong with me for years since I was a little girl, and my family has tried to beat it out of me so their precious daughter, my twin sister, can be chosen when we become eighteen.
I had prayed for this day since I was three years old when my gifts came to light one night when I was scared after my father had punished me for trying to get something to eat.
I had learned my lesson the hard way, and it is hard to trust anyone when you have gone through what I have.
I pray that whoever the Alpha will be, they will take care of me, and I can learn to trust them enough to tell them about my past.
The drive there was tiring with me sitting on the floor being, my twin sister’s footstool, and I gritted my teeth with each harsh movement of her feet digging into my already sore and bruised backside from the night before.
The car parked, and I let out a breathy sigh, trying to keep my pain from being known, while we all walked inside the facility to be tested. I hoped my testing would come back positive.
“Hello, welcome. I will take your girls with me to be checked out thoroughly and for the testing to begin.” I blushed to see the young woman wearing the white nurse’s outfit, with her sharp, pointed ears and pretty wings telling me she was of Fae descent.
Ashely and I followed behind her, and we were both put into separate rooms, being told to strip and take a seat on the medical bed after dressing into the patient’s clothes.
I quickly changed, apprehensive of it all, not knowing if this would ever be my way out or if I had been fooling myself for years.
I lay down on the cot, closing my eyes with my hands on my stomach, and I did not realize at that moment that I had fallen asleep.
