Prologue
Valoria had once been a kingdom of unparalleled prosperity. It was a land where golden fields stretched to the horizon and the cities thrived with the hum of commerce and the laughter of its people. The royal castle, perched atop a hill, gleamed with the splendor of its intricate architecture.
King Alaric and Queen Isolde ruled with wisdom and compassion. Under their guidance, Valoria had flourished. Princess Elena, the beloved daughter of the king and queen, was the heart of the kingdom. She was known for her beauty, grace, and intelligence. She genuinely cared for her people. Her presence brought joy to the court and confidence to the common folk. They believed that under her future rule, Valoria would continue to thrive.
Five years ago, when Elena was only thirteen, the unthinkable happened. One tragic night, the castle was engulfed in flames while under siege. Amidst the chaos and destruction, Princess Elena disappeared without a trace. Despite exhaustive searches and desperate prayers, no sign of her was found. The fire claimed the lives of King Alaric and Queen Isolde, leaving the kingdom not only in mourning but also leaderless. Some believed a guard helped her escape.
Few knew that the fire had not been an accident. Rumors whispered that Joshua’s father, desperate for power, had orchestrated the assassination, hiring a hitman to end the royal line.
By some miracle, Elena escaped that night, vanishing into the unknown.
In her absence, Valoria was thrown into disarray. Despite the regency council’s efforts to maintain stability, the kingdom began to fracture.
The council, bound by succession laws, had no authority to appoint a new monarch without proof of the princess’s death. Joshua, Elena’s cousin, had attempted to claim the throne, but his efforts failed due to lack of proof of the Princess’s death. His ambitions, however, did not fade. After his father’s death, he was taken in by the queen of Weston, as a peace offering to Valoria. Making Joshua the queen’s adopted son and expanding his influence.
Without a ruling monarch, the council could make only minor decisions, and their power was limited. Under their uncertain leadership, Valoria fell into hard times. Bandits roamed the countryside, and trade routes that had once been safe now bristled with danger. The once-unified kingdom was fracturing, and the shadow of instability loomed large over the land.
Amidst the darkness, there remained a flicker of hope. Stories of Princess Elena’s kindness and strength continued to inspire those who remembered her. The people longed for her return, believing that only she could restore the kingdom to its former glory. They whispered prayers and held onto the belief that the lost princess would one day come back to save Valoria from the brink of ruin.
Five years later, when Elena returned to Valoria at the age of eighteen, the council accepted her claim as the rightful heir. Though Valoria had endured hardship, it had not fallen. Doubts lingered in the hearts of some, both within the council and among the people, who questioned whether the young woman who had returned was truly the queen Valoria needed.
