Chapter 1
Thrawn looked up from his console. The rebel end was finally here. His red eyes squinted. On the other end, Admiral Lorn sat there, confused. He had never seen an alien take a position in the empire, but this alien was in a higher position than him. Lorn thought to himself. If only he could get all the glory for this victory. The Chiss just sat there, admiring his collection of artifacts. Finally, Lorn spoke up.
“So what’s the plan, Grand Admiral? I need to know where to position my-” Thrawn’s hand made a stopping motion. He rubbed his chin. There was a moment of silence. Hyperspace reflected off of his red eyes.
“You will stay behind, make sure to protect the interdictor cruisers. Those gravity wells are too important for this mission.” His voice was soothing, almost calm. Lorn was disgusted. How dare this alien give him orders. “Prepare to move from out of hyperspace. The rebels won’t know what hit them.” Suddenly Lorn knew what to do. He gave a smirk.
“There’s a call on the other end,” one of Lorn’s crew yelled. He gave another smirk and shut off the transmission
Thrawn looked towards his bodyguard, and his most trusted companion Aknun. “What do you think my dear friend?” Aknun looked absentmindedly. “All as the force wills it. This is your moment. The force will decide upon victory or defeat.” He sat down. Aknun started to meditate. Allow me to prepare.
Thrawn bowed to him. “You know what to do, prepare for the ground assault.” He walked to the bridge. Admiral Pellaeon was standing there. “Hello. Grand Admiral. We are almost at the base. Your fleet is waiting for your command.” The chiss grand admiral thought about it.
“I trust you enough. I do believe that you could handle this assignment yourself. I have laid out the ground work for you.” His second in command turned to the microphone.
“This is Admiral Pellaeon of the flag ship Chimera. Prepare to pull out of hyperspace.” He turned to Thrawn. “I hope you are right about this attack. You are the only non human to graduate from the academy, though.”
“I have spent many days researching this rebel cell. It is time for their downfall,” Thrawn replied. He looked out the window of the bridge. His ship pulled out of hyperspace, but there was nothing there. He squinted. “Something is wrong. This is where it’s supposed to--” he looked to his sides, no Interdictors. That back stabbing scum Lorn. “Evasive maneuvers,” he yelled. A large amount of fighters pulled out of hyperspace.
“How could this have happened, and where is Lorn?!” Pellaeon yelled. He looked at Thrawn, who’s calming look turned to one of hatred and anger. His voice changed into one of spite.
“Our ‘friend’ Admiral Lorn seems to have been in contact with this specific cell. He must have told them of our attack. Fetch Aknun and tell him to prepare my shuttle. Move to attack position 25 b. I will head down to their base myself,” Thrawn sighed, but remembered something odd. His eyes widened. “The head of this rebel cell is on the screen.” The admiral went to this monitor. The transmission was weak, but he could make out what they were saying.
“Give up. We know who you are, Thrawn. We know your people.”
Thrawn was taken aback. He took all this time to hide his identity, but all would be unraveled if he let this person live.
“What could I call you?” Thrawn probed. “That doesn’t matter. Find me and I will talk to you.” the transmission ended. One of the officers ran into the room. Sir they left a call sign. He walked to the briefing room. Pellaeon was there.
“We have good news, and we have bad news.” Pellaeon stated. First of all, one of our own has tampered with the shuttles, and taken your own. It seems he has kidnapped Aknun. We weren’t been able to track him. But he had left behind a call sign. Thrawn looked at the markings on the screen. His eyes widened.
“Call off the attack” Thrawn spat. “But they are scrambling our signals.” Pellaeon thought. “Who ever stole the shuttle, must have come from the ship. Find out everyone who was in the hangar.” He caught up with Thrawn. “What did those symbols mean? Are they important?”
“It is my mother’s name! Only two people know of this name. We don’t have much time.”
“Is this Lorn? How could he have learned your mother’s name.”
“It could be him, but there is another. Find his ship, and we will know where Lorn is” Thrawn thought for a moment. What if he could track where the shuttle went, then we could find the leader. Thrawn walked to the bridge. Fighters zoomed everywhere
“Sir we are at 50% shields.” Thrawn thought for a second.
“Zoom towards them. Shields at maximum.” He looked at the footage of his shuttle. It seemed to have left right before the battle. He looked at the trajectory. There was nothing there but debris. “Tricky rebels. All fire power towards the area over there.” He pointed at debris. Suddenly, a large cruiser appeared out of thin air.
Thrawn had an idea. He ran down to the hangar bay. It was too loud to hear yourself think He walked towards a maintenance worker, and asked for the prototype
“But sir, it hasn’t been tested”, A maintenance worker yelled. Ships were zooming around.
“There isn’t enough time”, Thrawn yelled back. The maintenance worker nodded and pressed a button on a pad. Thrawn got into a flight suit and hopped into his fighter. Next thing he knew, he was dodging blaster bolts in the middle of a battle. Thrawn flipped, weaved, and dodged fighters from all sides. He hit the boosters and headed for the mysterious cruiser.
Thrawn sped into the enemy hanger, but there was nobody there. He hopped out and went to the bridge. The door opened slowly. There was a hiss. The room was dark. Thrawn took a step and the lights flashed on. In front of him, a table. Thrawn sat down, looked across the table. Someone sat on the other side.
“Hello Grand Admiral”, the man said.
“It seems you want me dead”, Thrawn replied.
“That is correct. It seems the empire’s rule has come to an end, and I will start with the destruction of the emperor’s prized Admiral.”
“Well, if that’s so, kill me now.”
“Don’t you want to know who I am Thrawn?”
“I believe I already know” Thrawn’s eyes looked at his opponent. He needed to stall long enough to learn everything he could. The markings looked familiar. Everything made sense.
“Too bad, you must die.” A snap hiss turned a bright white lightsaber on. Thrawn’s opponent lunged at thrawn. Thrawn dodged and hit the lightsaber out of his opponent’s hand.
“I should have seen that coming” The jedi said. He grabbed a second lightsaber and clicked the button. Nothing happened. Thrawn smiled.
“I know you too well.” Thrawn opened up his palm and held a kyber crystal. The jedi went to punch thrawn. Thawn dodged each attack. He smirked. Pulling a gun out of his holster, he shot his opponent in the arms. The jedi fell to his knees. Thrawn held him up. “I want you to watch the world burn...Aknun” The rest of Thrawn’s ships jumped out of hyperspace.
“Sorry about that Thrawn, some rebels tried to ambush us”, Admiral Lorn said over comlink.
“Fire at will”, Thrawn said cooly. Aknun fell to the ground. Thrawn grabbed him.
“I am dying master, it is the will of the force”, Aknun gasped. Thrawn looked at him. His eyes started to tear.
“I forgive you”, Thrawn held his most trusted companion.
“I foresee, the death of the empire.” Aknun closed his eyes, and became one with the force. Thrawn looked up, and wiped the tears from his eyes. “Call of the attack. They have suffered enough damage. Let them leave.” Thrawn moved towards the docking bay
“What! Are you crazy”, Lorn yelled. Suddenly, the loud noise stopped. Thrawn returned to the hangar bay. He moved to the bridge. Pellaeon stood there.
“Are you ok sir? Where is Aknun”, Pellaeon asked. Thrawn stood in silence for a second. He showed the lightsabers to his second in command.
“He died a warrior’s death”, Thrawn replied. They started to walk away. Thrawn sighed, “I don’t get the point of all of this.”
“What do you mean, sir”, Pellaeon asked.
“This war, what do we gain from this?”
“I don’t know sir, I just don’t know.”
