Oh, to be happy

The tardy bell rings right as I'm outside my classroom door. “Well shit”, I mumble to myself right as my teacher looks at me. “Miss Lee, would you like to join us for class, or would you prefer to stand there and stare from the doorway?” My teacher says and he stares at me sternly. I walk in and the entire class looks at me as if I'm some sort of strange animal in a zoo, I quietly take my seat in the back of the small classroom. I swear some days this place feels like a prison, Mr. Watson has no decor on his walls other than one of those dumb inspirational posters with a dog on it. As my teacher drones on about whatever the hell this subject is I allow myself to drift off into my favorite place, I'm surrounded by trees and tall grass and I'm sitting on the edge of a large rock, feeling the cool sensation of the summer breeze on my skin and listening to birds chirp and the way the wind blows through the trees and- “Ms. Lee, I believe I asked you a question”. Great. Just great. “I'm so sorry Mr. Watson” I remark as I look up at him “It appears that sometime during your monotone lecture I may have zoned out, can you please repeat your question?”I bat my eyelashes and flash him a fake smile. “Well, since you asked so kindly I suppose I can repeat it, I asked which famous entrepreneur invested heavily in steel and left many of his workers injured or dead”. How the hell am I supposed to remember this? “Uhm well sir I believe that that was uhhh Elmo sir”. I reply, sarcasm dripping from my tone, he rolls his eyes and walks away. “Carnegie, it was Andrew Carnegie, maybe write that down I wouldn't want you getting him mixed up with SpongeBob”.

The bell rings, finally. Next class is math and I plan on taking a nap until the teacher decides it's quiz day. “Okay, I'm going to ask you some questions to prepare you”. After multiple attempts at asking Matt to answer some problems, failed attempts if I may, the teacher finally snaps. “Matt, do you even know basic math? What's 2+2 Matt? Tell me what 2+2 is”. Poor Matt wasn't even paying attention so I lean over to him and whisper “Say 7”. He snaps back to reality and blurts out “it's 7 ma'am”. The whole class erupts with laughter that sounds like a group of hyenas, the teacher just walks out. Thank god, now I can take my nap.
