Foreword
How much can change in a year? Two years? Three years? Time flies by and suddenly you’re in a different place, surrounded by different people, thinking different ways, living in a new world. You could also be exactly the same person but you’ve discovered something small about yourself. You started another hobby, read a new book that changed your perspective. Change is not limited to anything. Change is fluid and complex. Change occurs whether we allow or disallow it. Change doesn’t care if we’re ready or not. But it definitely helps when you’re expecting it. It hurts for sure. The pain isn’t a sign of weakness but evolution. Change exists on a brilliant, infinite spectrum.
Why does it carry a negative connotation? For most of us, change isn’t chosen and it hurts. We linger in the safety of consistency, even if that pattern is hurting us. At least we know how badly this will hurt us, right? Wrong.
Sometimes you don’t even realize you’re going through change until you recollect something and recognize the flicker of a shadow that used to be you. You stare at your distant reflection as if it were a ghost. You feel an ache of what used to be there and realize I’m not the same person anymore.
Good or bad, change is change. Regardless of how or why, you will emerge from this journey a different person. It’s your choice whether you emerge a victor or a victim. The first step is always self reflection. So I ask you:
What has change done for/to you?
