Summary

New World (Part 1)

A boy lay dying on a dark surface. His uniform died red by all the blood flowing out of the large wound in his chest. More blood shot out of his mouth as he deliberately tried to move his body.

There was a sharp noise in the background which was almost deafening his ears.

Now he could see a set of large jaws above him. Just a few moments away from being eaten by them.

“Hahaha, cough, Is this the end of it...?”

[A day ago, 4080 AD, Kandy, New Lanka]

~ riiiiing riiiiing riiiiing ~

Tharusha sleepily hit the table clock in order to stop its alarm from ringing but instead it hit against his arm and fell down. Mhmm. He sleepily crawled out of his blanket letting out a large sleepy yawn.

Removed his phone from its charging doc, and with a slight glace at all the missed calls and notifications it had he sleepily made himself to the kitchen area. Then poured himself a glass of water and gulped the whole thing down.

Tharusha was an 18-year-old boy who had just finished his high school. He was an ordinary looking guy with black uneven hair.

The last two days he had been lazing around at home reading comics. Last day there had been a batch party, but Tharusha hadn’t participated as he knew he was sure to be made the source of entertainment there.

He sat on a chair near the ding table and placed his face on the desk still sleepy. Now the world he lived in had just gotten through its third world war. Though he had been a baby when it had ended. By that time the world had gone through many changes. The geography had changed as seas started rising. And now a newfound mineral had immerged called luminite stones that were considered an amazing energy source. With that came a new race of people who had something scientists called mana flowing through their body. These people were called elementalists, as they were able to control natures elements at their will. A new hierarchy in the society was created. But that wasn’t all that came with luminite. Strange monsters, that the Japanese referred to as Kaiju, started roaming earth bringing terror upon humanity.

Tharusha, after having gotten himself, a refreshing shower had a quick breakfast and headed out of his apartment, for his part time job at a local supermarket. Which he was hoping to change into a full-time one since he was not planning to get into any university.

He was now at the bus stand in front of the apartment complex he lived in. A few moments later his designated bus arrived, and he got into it as the automatic doors opened and closed. The bus was filled, but there seemed to be one seat left. Besides it was a young lady in a military uniform, navy blue blazer with a set of badges on it and a white shirt along with a pair of white boots. Ther was a cap that she had placed on her lap and was resting her hands on it, staring out of the shutter. Tho she looked quite young to be a military officer. This reminded Tharusha of someone he knew.

“What are you staring at boy?”

That brought Tharusha back to this world. The voice belonged to the military lady, and he had been unintentionally staring at her. A sudden feeling of being ashamed rushed through him, as he quickly apologized from her.

“Aaaa I’m sorry mis. I didn’t mean to.”

She had long platinum hair, which was complimented by a set of crystal-like blue eyes.

“May I sit here?“, Tharusha asked

“Well of course, it’s public property.“, saying she turned her head back towards out of the window. That was all to it. Tharusha plugged in his earphones as the bus strode through the futuristic city of Kandy.

Tharusha was now packing shelves in the storeroom at the supermarket.

“Did you hear, the defence forces had hunted down yet another monster close by to city parameters.“, said his coworker who was also packing shelves next to him. Her name was Mitsuki, who was still studying at the same school Tharusha used to attend. She was bit of a chatterbox.

“Yeah, I saw it in news yesterday. Wasn’t that the third time something like that had happened?“, he replied while packing the shelves on his side.

“Awww this is making me scared to go home alone after my shift.”

“It’s not that they would be able to come into city parameters...”

“But...”

“If anything of the sort was to happen, we got the defence force on our side. They’ll solve it.”

The Monster Defence Force also known as the MDF was a special branch of the army that specialized in hunting down and detaining monsters. As soon as you completed high school you had two options to choose from.One was to go to college, or a university and the other was to join the MDF if you had the required potential. Some of Tharusha’s friends too had joined the defence force. He remembered them having somewhat touch potential.

“Ah speaking of Defence Force, General Ayaka was soooooo cool on tv yesterday. Kyaaaa I can’t imagine how- bla bla bla bla bla bla bla...”

Whatever Mitsuki was chippering about, Tharusha paid not much attention to. Later earning him a pout from her.

The day was spent like every other day. Interacting with customers, packing goods to shelves and so on... Mitsuki left a little late cause it was a Saturday. And Tharushe checked out a little after that.

Back at his apartment, Tharusha had a nice hot bath. He then had dinner and after that played some video games till late light and finally jumped into his bed.

The day was spent as normal as ever. All his life until now was no different from this. Nothing exciting ever happened no did he expect anything to. Slowly Tharusha drifted into sleep and before he knew itthe next day came and the annoying alarm clock started ringing again.

“MONSTERS DETAINED CLOSE TO CITY LIMITS LAST NIGHT.”

“THREE CIVILIANS INJURED AND ONE DEAD.”

“CITIZENS WARNED TO NOT WONDER OUT OF CITY LIMITS.”

Those were the headlines on news the following day.

As always Tharusha was on his way to the bus stand. When he saw something completely odd. It was a bride. A beautifully dressed bride. She was sitting on a bench at the bus stand. She was in bare foot. A pair of red high heel shoes were held in one of her hands and her chin was resting on another. She kept staring at the road. This looked like a runaway bride straight out of some romance fantasy.

As Tharusha got closer, he noticed who it was. It was the platinum haired lady form yesterday. “Was she a cosplayer?”

For the rest of the time till the bus arrived she remained the same way she was. As she got onto the bus along with Tharusha, a lot many started staring at her. But she didn’t seem to care.

That day Mituski chattered a lot about what had happed the night last day. Just as Tharusha had expected her to. Even though he too felt a bit of insecurity with the lately increasing monster cases close to city limits.

His work at the supermarket went on the same as every day else, and finally came to an end after he closed the supermarket himself and headed back home.

It was a bit too late when he got to the bus stop, as the last bus for the day was already leaving him behind.

“Ah sucks
 guess I’ll walk.”

It wasn’t a great distance to the apartment complex, and it wasn’t a bad idea to have a long walk occasionally.

This city was known as Kandy, one of earths safest places to live as it was surrounded by mountains and huge manmade walls that prevented monsters from coming into human settlements. According to old records, the city of Kandy hadn’t been buzzling with technology as much as it was now, a hundred or so years ago. The old city had been devasted due to the world war and many more natural disasters that followed, which was later reconstructed after being colonized under the New Asian Union. Some of its important cultural and historically significant locations which had miraculously survived were untouched and left to be as they were. The pathway Tharusha was taking was besides a large lake that was in the middle of the city. On the opposite side of the lake was an old building which had a unique architecture from any of those in the city. It was known as the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. Which was a very much revered place by Kandyans even though people these days weren’t much devoted to religion. Tharusha himself wasn’t much of a religious person but after remembering something someone had told him back in the distant past, he clasped his hands together and placed them close to his forehead. Then slightly bowed towards the direction of the temple worshiping. A simple gesture of faith. Tharusha kept gazing at the old temple for a little while.

Although it was past 10 pm the streets were well lighted and there were vehicles passing by every now and then. Nowadays cities were as if they never went to sleep. Tharusha was about to continue on his way back home, realizing he had to get back to work tomorrow, when a large truck rammed into a nearby building. He almost fell back, startled by what had just happened.

As soon as Tharusha realized to what had happened he quickly dialled the emergency contact number and gave them a quick report of the incident. He wanted to pass by now that the authorities were informed of the incident, and they would here at the place any moment. But something inside him made him feel bad to just pass by. What if someone was badly injured and the authorities never came thinking it was a prank call. It was in the news; a lot of people had been making prank calls for fun nowadays.

Hesitating himself for a moment he slapped some bravery into himself and went close to the truck. By the looks of it, it seemed to be an ordinary long truck. But something seemed fishy. Hesitatingly enough he reached the front part which was practically smashed into what seemed like a textile shop. Tharusha reached out to the door and opened it expecting the worst. But what he saw sent a sense of relief through his body.

“Robots
”

The truck had been driven by humanoid robots. Probably they might have malfunctioned, he thought. Then he noticed the large ole that had been created in the robot’s body. It was as if some sharp object had pierced through it from behind. But what would have caused that?

Suddenly a deafening sound came from inside truck. Tharusha clenched his eats and crouched quickly putting on his headphones around his neck that had sound cancelling. Then after looking up, he noticed the top of the truck’s container torn off by something. This is bad!

Just as he was about to make a run for it, he quickly froze in his tracks, noticing something big and ferocious looking down on him from above.

“Shit”
