Summary

My name is Lil. Yes, I know my name is Luis Fernando; I can still hear my grandmother correcting me in my head every time I introduce myself as Lil. Luis Fernando sounds too formal and ordinary. I prefer Lil, a name that feels brave, romantic, and charming. I'm not sure if that's what it actually means, but it's my name, so I can give it whatever meaning I want. A month ago, I made a bold move: I confessed my feelings to my best friend. I did it thinking I'd never see him again, but by some twist of fate (or the devil's coincidence, if you ask me), we ended up at the same university. To make things even more complicated, the administration thought it was a great idea to put us in the same dorm room, given we're from the same place and the same age. I have no idea what's going to happen in room 307, but the tension is already thick. This might be a story you've heard a thousand times, but will it end the same way? Or maybe not?

Prologue

High school graduation is just around the corner, bringing with it the opportunity to confess my feelings to Rafa, my best friend of over three years. I stand in front of my wardrobe, meticulously organizing my clothes for this much-anticipated evening.

“Are you sure you want to tell him?” asks Luz from the other end of the phone, her concerned tone seeping through the cracks of the call.

I take a deep breath before responding, picking up the phone lying on my bed.

“Not really, but it’s now or never,” I say, my voice sounding firm despite the whirlwind of nerves and excitement inside me.

Luz appears on the screen of my phone, her face filled with understanding and closeness.

She’s my cousin, two years older than me but always my best friend. She’s studying at the same university I’m going to attend. Despite the distance that will separate me from my family, at least I’ll be close to her, and that comforts me.

“Lil, what makes you think he feels the same?” Her voice is gentle but full of concern.

“I’ve told you already. His jokes, his looks, his smile,” I can’t help but smile slightly as I remember it. “Everything about him makes me feel like there’s something more.”

“Don’t you think it would be better to let it go and start a new life tomorrow? I don’t want you to get hurt,” her advice laden with concern.

“Don’t worry, I’ll be fine,” I assure her sweetly. “I promise.”

“Okay. Good luck,” Luz bids me farewell before ending the video call.

“Thank you. I love you,” my words slide out sincerely before I hang up.

Now, as I organize my clothes for tonight, my thoughts swirl in a tumult. Graduation marks the end of an important chapter in my life, but it’s also the beginning of something that could change everything. I’m ready for tonight, but more than anything, I’m ready to confess everything I feel to Rafa.

“Could it go wrong?” I whisper to myself, mentally evaluating every detail of my plan. “It doesn’t matter.”

...

With my clothes ready and my thoughts swirling, I walked over to the mirror. My reflection stared back at me, and for a moment, I paused to observe the subtle changes these years had brought. I looked more grown-up, more confident, although inside, there was still a boy filled with doubts and insecurities.

“Come on, you can do this,” I told myself as I adjusted my tie. “This is your night, your moment.”

A knot of nerves tightened in my stomach, but the determination in my chest was stronger. I couldn’t keep this inside anymore. Rafa needed to know how I felt, uncertain outcome be damned.

Finishing my preparations, I gave myself a final look in the mirror.

“Perfect,” I murmured, trying to convince myself.

I left my room and descended the stairs. My parents were in the living room, waiting for me with a mix of pride and nostalgia. My mother was the first to approach, her eyes shining with excitement.

“You look amazing, sweetheart,” she said, giving me a tight hug.

“Thank you, Mom,” I replied, returning the embrace. “Are you ready?”

“More than ready,” my father chimed in with a smile. “Let’s go, we don’t want to be late.”

The journey to the school passed in a blur, a mix of lively conversation and silent anticipation.

Upon arrival, the sight of the gym decorated for graduation brought a surge of reality. This was really happening. My parents went to find their seats, and I headed toward where my classmates were gathering. Among the familiar faces, my eyes searched for Rafa. There he was, laughing with some friends, his smile lighting up the room. My heart skipped a beat.

“Lil, there you are!” called my friend Miguel, interrupting my thoughts. “Come on, we need to get ready.”

I nodded and joined them, trying to keep my composure. But every time I glanced at Rafa, my resolve grew stronger. The ceremony was a blur of speeches, applause, and emotions. Finally, the moment everyone awaited arrived: the diploma presentation. When they called my name, I walked up to the stage with a mix of pride and nervousness.

After receiving my diploma and returning to my seat, I locked eyes with Rafa. He smiled and gave me a thumbs-up. I returned the smile, knowing the real challenge lay ahead. With the ceremony over, everyone started dispersing toward the graduation party.

I found Rafa near the entrance, chatting with some friends. I took a deep breath and approached him.

“Rafa!” I called out, trying to sound casual.

“Lil!” he exclaimed, giving me a hug. “Congratulations, man!”

“Thanks, you too,” I replied, feeling that the moment had arrived. “Hey, can we talk for a second?”

“Sure, what’s up?” Rafa said, his expression shifting to curiosity. “I also have something to tell you.”

I led him to a quieter corner of the gym, away from the noise and curious glances. I could feel my heart pounding so loudly that I almost heard it.

“Rafa, there’s something I need to tell you,” I started, noticing my voice trembling slightly. “It’s something I’ve been keeping for a long time, and... I need you to know before everything changes.”

Rafa furrowed his brow slightly, but his gaze remained warm and attentive, giving me the confidence I needed.

“What is it, Lil?”

I took a deep breath and exhaled slowly, trying to calm the whirlwind of emotions inside me. It was now or never.

“Rafa, I...,” I felt my heart beating strongly. “I’m in love with you. It’s been a while. And before we go our separate ways, I needed to tell you.”

The silence that followed was heavy; each second felt like an eternity. Rafa looked at me with a mixture of surprise and something else I couldn’t immediately identify. Finally, he smiled, that smile that always melted me.

Without saying a word, Rafa leaned in and kissed me passionately. The world around us disappeared as his lips met mine. The kiss was intense, filled with an urgency and passion I had never experienced before. His tongue intertwined with mine, exploring with a fierceness that made me tremble. I felt my body react instantly, desire coursing through every inch of my skin. My cock hardened, pulsating with desperate need.

The taste of his mouth was intoxicating, and the warmth of his body against mine made me feel like I was burning from within. Everything I had wanted, everything I had dreamed of, was happening in that moment. But as quickly as it started, the kiss ended. Rafa pulled away, breathing heavily, his gaze filled with a mix of emotions I couldn’t fully decipher.

“Goodbye, Lil,” he said, his voice barely a whisper before turning and walking away.

I wanted to say something, to stop him, to make him understand that this couldn’t be goodbye. But I was completely in shock, the words stuck in my throat. I watched him walk away, his figure fading into the crowd of graduates. My mind was a mess, a tangle of thoughts and emotions I couldn’t unravel.

I stood there, lips still throbbing from the kiss and heart broken by the farewell. My graduation night, which had started with so much hope and nervousness, ended with a bittersweet mix of love and loss.
